Hi Mud,

AC died about a week ago. Took it in to get recharged. Shop didn't mention anything about a leak (not sure if they even checked). A week past to today and the AC is out again.

I put some UV Dye in and checked the lines (most common rear ac line) but all looks good. Texas truck so little to no rust.

I did see some dye coming from the compressor itself. Is this a sign that it needs to be replaced? For reference it's a 98 LX470 with 312k miles.

You really need to connect gauges, run the A/C, and watch the low and high side pressures. A worn out compressor may not be able to reach proper high side pressures, and considering that you live in TX, the A/C has likely seen a lot of use over the years.
