Well, after years of wanting to visit, socalrubi's thread inspired me to finally do so. My wife, son, and I went late yesterday to Lower Coyote Canyon. The lateness was a mixed blessing - we didn't have much time to explore, but the crowds were all gone! It was my first time, so I'm not really sure where we wound up... We followed the LCC trail to the third water crossing. The water has dropped since Dan2722's visit. It was only a little above my knees, so we went through, even though we were solo. We went further up the trail through a couple of rock gardens, and finally stopped in a pass between two hills. We did some hiking, took a few pictures, then turned around and went home. I can't wait to go back with someone who knows the area. I'll try to attach a couple of pictures, but I'm not sure I know how to do it...

Well, if you went up the couple of rock gardens and a little squeeze and turned around just after that, you didn't get all the way back to Sheep Canyon camping area.

Any time you want to go back, let me know. I love it up there! Nice pics of the water crossing.

Thanks, Brent. I'll keep that in mind. Post up the next trip you're planning out there.

Take care,
Joe

Shuts down June thru September. I'd love to get up there before it does shut down for the summer. Had to cut a trip with RFJTOY short due to a coolant leak a couple of weeks ago. We were supposed to spend Sunday night up there. At least it was only a loose clamp on a coolant line from the HG repair and not a botched HG repair itself!

Thats a great trail. If you went that far you got all the best action and only missed the back end which is beautiful. The great thing about that area is that is kind of a dead end. There are only so many routes before you keep running into dead ends, hard to get lost really. The ranger cruises through a few times a day also which is an extra safety factor. I need to get my 40 out there. I am not sure if I can do the rock on 31"s though? Congrats anyway I bet you had a great time!

Awesome! I love that area of the park.

I just got back from AB where we cruised all over the Carrizo Gorge area and hiked a ways up the old railroad. On the way back today we went up to the Valley of the Moon and checked out Elliott's mine. It was absolutely beautiful weather yesterday and today out there.

Sure you can. A few months back when Eric, AKA SDNative, and I did that run, we saw a stock 4runner climb that rock garden right after we descended it. I'm sure he was running on 31s.

It must have been a "Cruiser" weekend in ABSP because I saw 3 of them today. On my way down Banner grade I crossed paths with a nicely built 40th ann. edition (sage) and on my way home I passed a nice 60 and then came up on a nice 40.

On my trip there today I took my youngest son out to Arroyo Tapiado to explore the mud caves. Wow! is all I can say. We had a blast. If you have never done it I highly recommend it. I met another father/son team while exploring one cave who told me that there are 22 caves out there. They have found 19. We ended up exploring 5 today in the time that we had so I am looking forward to going back and camping there so there is time to explore more.

I agree with VCCruzr.

They've flattened out those rock gardens big time to make them 'more accessible' for the INS...from what I heard. I've seen a stock 4runner with street tires and FJCruisers with street tires go up and down before the descrecation of those rock gardens that made them easier.

That was probably Dan's 40th who posted just before you.

Sounds like you all had a better weekend than me. Wait my weekend was pretty good: Pechanga with 3 buddies where we all donated to the Native American Indians but had a blast, UFC fight Saturday night oh and re-painted the bathroom and put a new light fixture. But I am dead tired now, time for some sleep!

Not Dan's unless he has put on a higher lift, bigger tires, and a RTT.

Nope wasn't me. Bigger tires and lift will be in a few months.:D

I stuck to the I-8 side. Derrick, we missed each other by about 18 hours as I was around Arroyo Tappido Saturday afternoon before heading up to Little Blair Valley to camp.

SoCal TLCA has a Miller-Lockwood run planned for this Saturday. I've got a call in to the club prez to ask if he'd consider switching to ABSP. The weather should be perfect, everything in bloom, and we can always do M-L next month. If they change runs I'll post-up (and probably PM you just to be sure :D).

I'll keep an eye on their site. Helping the BIL demolish his kitchen this Saturday, so couldn't go anyway!
