Old Cruiser: 5425 pounds. New Cruiser: 5690.

On the bright side, low range gearing is improved from 2.488:1 to 2.618:1.

Toyota says frame torsional rigidity is increased 40% and flexural rigidity by 20% over the previous Land Cruiser.

Approach/departure/breakover angles have all decreased, from 31/24/24 to 30/20/21.

No, its 5,650 or so, I think you are confusing the gross vehicle weight.

Why did Toyota choose to put 4.30s in the 100, when it came with the same transmission (I assume same gearing) as the FZJ80, but a more powerful and more torquier engine?
If you put 4.10s in a LC100 4spd it'll be way slugish than what it feels like with 4.30s. But it'll get better mileage and fast top end. With the 5spd, the 4.10 was installed because the lower 1st gear ratio wich is obiously lower than the 4spd 1st gear.

Are we talking even more sluggish than the 80 with the 1FZ and 4.10s? It just seems strange, because I would imagine that Toyota would be more concerned about fuel economy, especially since it was already installing a more powerful engine that should make it faster than the 80 with the same gearing.

But then again, the 100 is a fat pig compared to the 80. I think curb weight of the 100 is 5390 verses 4760 of the 80. That's a 630 lb difference.

Yes. And that added 630 pounds resulted in a rig that was far stronger structuraly, quieter, and with more capacity.

Payload capacity of the FZJ80 is: 1719 lbs

Payload capacity of the UZJ100 is: 1470 lbs

Payload capacity of the new 200 is: 1585 lbs

I'm not quoting payload. Capacity refers to many key issues of the vehicle. Payload is only one.

Let's not go down the same old and dumb road.....putting down new Cruisers vs the old. ???

Sounds like a good idea.

Lower gearing, and PUSH BUTTON 4 wheel drive. No thanks!
