After a random grumpy cold start from the 1hz the other morning (when it wasn't even that cold) I replaced the glow plugs. None of these old nasty ones had proper readings on the multimeter. Probably the original set from 1991.

Installed some 80mil "Quiet Crap" today. If anyone is buying this stuff and wondering how much to get.... 50sqft covered my floor almost exactly. I have another 50 that will go in the sides / doors and maybe double up on some areas of the floor.

Dirty:
(Yes, I needed to used more than just that little toy broom :flipoff2:.)

Took it for a test drive on wet roads and its definitely a noticeable difference in sound. The vehicle even feels more "solid" so to speak. When I am done with the sides i'm sure I will lose a few more little rattles and squeaks.

As you can see, I finished after dark but the interior LED's from Odd Iron Off road (Thanks @1978HJ45 ) allowed me to see well enough to put it all back together.

Glad you're happy with the product. :)

Fun times, I ended up doing similar.

Scrub down

I didnt take the route of sound deadening stick on as I was worried I would not see rust if it reared its cancerous head. Instead ive been searching for something like
5mm Pre-Cut Rubber Underlayment - Soundproof Your Floor

to lay under the vinyl. Looks great though. How is the quiet ride now ?

You know a 77 Series is already quiet when it leaves the factory and doesn't require 5,000 square feet of Reynolds Wrap.

The entire underside of that Cruiser has been spray painted to look new...you can tell the shocks were a different color. Typical used car salesman trick.

Who did you import it from/with?
From time to time you read a post that would have been better served to be formatted into a P.M. Perhaps this post is
one of them.

Nice! Did you use a roller of any sort to help the adhesion process? If so please give the info, I was gifted some of this stuff but haven't installed any yet. Any tips and or tricks?
I used the tiny little roller it came with on some areas but mostly just using my hands worked well for pressing it down. I will say its not the most crazy sticky adhesion and that kind of helps because it makes it easier to press it down into the grooves of the floor. My only actual tip would be to start and finish with work gloves. I didnt put mine on until I got a BIG "paper cut". I went to wash it out and put peroxide on it just to find out I had about 10 other tiny paper cuts from the edges of the material. Stung pretty good and my hands hurt today for sure haha. But the whole process was super easy. The most PITA part was just scrubbing the floor clean.

I thought of you when I took my before pic because I remembered you wishing you had taken one haha!
The ride is noticeably different but nothing crazy. Feels solid and eliminated some vibrations/rattles for sure. Feels a little less like a tin box already even before doing sides and doors.

Edit: just looked at the link for that 5mm rubber.... I am sure that will help but I would maybe go the route I did or get something thicker than that to really notice an improvement in sound. And you did a more thorough job than I did cleaning the floor. I can't see any surface rust or anything on yours. I would go ahead and use something with adhesion.

Even though I agree with @1978HJ45 on this being more of a private matter I will address it anyway.

In Australia (where its from) It is fairly common for land cruisers to have rust protection like this. It is not as much of a rattle can job as it probably looks. Also, there are plenty of areas underneath where there is no rust protection and in those areas the surfaces look in perfect condition. The areas I am talking about that are clean and original are the kind of areas where if rust was going to be anywhere it would be there.....rocker panels, underbody around spare tire etc...
I have no worries about that so neither should you. :)

I found the vehicle myself after searching all day everyday for quite a while. I had Phil at AUStoUSA bring it over for me.

Thanks. I have no worries about it, its not my ride. You were asking questions about the suspension being stock, others chimed in saying aftermarket shocks are usually different colors, and I pointed out that the shocks were indeed a different color than black, but had been painted over for some reason, which is indeed a common used car trick. So, you may very well have some aftermarket springs and shocks, but due to the paint it is hard to tell from pics.

About the importing...I didn't PM cause its a question I'm sure quite a few people have. There are always questions about reputable importers, especially in the 70 section. I'm currently looking at overseas trucks myself, all info is appreciated.

good looking truck.

Right on buddy, all good!
Good luck with your search

Got home from playing some soccer and decided to go ahead and knock out the inner side panels with the sound deadening. Started to do the front doors then realized there isn't much surface area that's easy to access so I didn't bother. Same with the smaller back door. I did do the larger back door though.
Haven't given it a test drive yet to listen to / feel the difference but I will report back when I do. Big difference just banging on the floor and other areas it really makes the whole vehicle sound more solid.

What did you use?
80mil "Quiet crap" from Cruisercrap.com

Seems to be a good middle ground of cost and effectiveness. I wouldn't say its a crazy difference with it compared to without but I am super anal about any little rattles and stuff like that so this is just part of the process of making it more comfortable to drive since its my DD and only vehicle.

@60toyetero yeah buddy! Thanks for your continued help with all my basic questions while I get to know this thing.
Got some cheap indoor/outdoor carpet just now so after thats down then the storage/ sleeping platform build begins!

Put down some carpet in the cargo area today then randomly decided I wanted to go drive on the coast so I made the 3 hour drive to my favorite spot, messed around in 4 wheel for a little while on some logs and through miniature river crossings then took some photos and had a beer in the pouring rain. Seriously fell in love with the troopy today! Such an epic machine.

Also, I've got full suspension kit on order from @cruiseroutfit that I should have around mid april. In the meantime I will be figuring out the interior build so that new suspension has a purpose in holding up at least something in the rear haha. Today I threw in much more photography equipment than I needed for the drive (Big steel light stands, sandbags, pelican cases etc..) and the ride was perfect. When I bring all that around plus the storage / sleeping build out that will be in there plus a rear bumper with tire carrier, the OME set up Kurt and I decided on should be perfect. :smokin:
