Last February, I decided I needed a Tepui Autana roof top tent. I got in touch with Adam (BoxRocket), and I placed an order for an Arctic Camo Autana tent. That evening, I hemmed and hawed and realized that I really preferred the look of the Tan instead of the camo. So I called the next day and asked if the order had gone out, and if it hadn't, if it was too late to change the color of my order. I recognized that it was totally my fault, so no one needed to bend over backward to make any changes. They said, no big deal, we'll send you a tan one.
A week or so goes by, and I meet the freight truck driver and unload my tent. I open up the box and realize the tent they sent was the Camo, which is great looking tent, it's just not my cup of tea. I email Tepui and let them know what happened, again, recognizing that I did in fact order this, and that considering the shipping costs, it wasn't worth it for either of us to send these things back and forth. They insisted on sending me a tan one, and that I could just put the camo one on the truck that brings the new one. Rad!
I get the tent, and have used it at least 20-30 times over the spring, fall and summer. Its everything I hoped for. I added another memory foam mattress and leave a down comforter in there along with some pillows. I sleep better in there than I do at home. I've been in there in temps as low as 20 and as high as 90. It's comfortable, convenient, and makes is very easy to convince the family to go camping.
Around October or so, I am putting the tent away and I break off the tab of the zipper. This makes it very hard to close, but it's only a zipper, so how hard could it be to replace, right?
I email Tepui and ask if they have any suggestions. They say that they'll be sending me a new travel cover, as it's hard to match up an existing zipper with a new zipper. Again, I say, that's probably unnecessary, and that I'm happy to figure out a cheaper alternative. I just need to zip my cover on and off, it doesn't really matter to me. Sure enough, a few weeks later (they were out), a new cover shows up at my door.
Tepui makes great gear that has proved well worth the cost many times over. Combine that with some awesome service, and you get a winning combination. If you're in the market for a RTT, go with Tepui, you won't regret it.
(I have nothing to do with Tepui as a company, I just felt like they deserved some credit in a world where everyone is so quick to post and comment about negatives, but the positives always get forgotten).
