A larger gas tank?

I'd just have a couple of cans. A bigger tank isnt gonna fit into the existing location in the same way may hit on stuff out on the trail, youll probably have to do some fabbing to mount it. If you really want a long range tank I think Ironpig makes one. I know I've seen one listed somewhere.

what wayne said,,, the stock tank is about 22 gal. if you want big you will get over 40 with the long ranger. MAF, SOR ect all carry the long range tank.

speaking of tanks, i am going to get one made for a couple yrs now:rolleyes: the stock tank is well above the framerails, but i figure if a have a tank made that will be flat to the frame, i dont loose any clearance and i gain about 12 gals in capacity. sounds pretty good to me.

I had a 53 gallon tank, which sat flat with the frame rails. The problem was the previous owner didn't bolt it up, just sandwiched it between some flat metal stock, a wooden 2x4", and the body. I also didn't have a rear skid plate so I was dragging it on rocks.
Maybe someone with a different long range tank can chime in here, but I'd think you would be better off making one yourself (or having a custom one fabbed) to get all the baffles where you want them and to get your appropriate dimensions. There is really a lot of room for a tank back there.

Not like it is a big difference, but earlier tanks have an extra 2 gallons of capacity, compared to later tanks.

injected or carb'ed? carb'ed I would keep the same tank... injected, I would try to use a FI tank with the submerged sending unit, etc.... more reliable than an inline pump...

I am going carbed, but this block has no provision for a mechanical fuel pump. So, I have to use a low pressure in-line pump. Or I could find a tank with a high pressure fuel pump and run it through a regulator.

I'm going to measure today and head out to the junk yard tomorrow to see what will physically fit. And I can fab up something with out 2x4's to make it fit! :)

Thanks for the replies.

Howdy! Any good electric fuel pump should be able to push enough fuel to give you 10+ psi for a carb. Just mount it near the tank, cause they don't suck very good. What year/model 350 are you using? I never thought about GM dropping the mechanical fuel pump boss since everything is now fuel injected. If you can, I highly recomend going with the TBI. It's a little more work and $$$ to set up, but it is small, simple, reliable, and it flies upside down if you need to. No floats to bounce on the rocks, or flood/starve when you are way off camber or up/down hill. My old stock 1977 350 will get replaced with a TBI, one of these days. John

I have a 38 gallon tank (or so) and fill up every 400 (according to the tripmeter) with 20-25 gallons of fuel.

I can't imagine havina a stock tank any more, especially as I pass that last gas station....
