@SipLife also refreshed the steering wheel, horn button, a pillar covers, sun visors, and seat belt posts. He also got the door cards spruced up with new wire push pins.

We plan to knock out the interior this week.

Nice work. How well does paint on things like steering wheels and visors hold up in Texas heat? My 70 series wheel could use some paint. Any specific paint you guys use?

I have not done this before so I cannot offer long term results. I will take a pic of the the paint we used. It was from Autozone black gloss. Works on leather, plastic, metal. I will report back on long term testing.

I would sand with 320 grit. Hit it with epoxy primer then paint.

High heat paint might hold better against sun fade.

Can't remember if i've commented no here or not. This is amazing and what I hope to do with my sons one day. Job well done.

Thanks. It’s the best thing I ever did. Time and $. Lots of REAL living and being at the barn. No Wifii. By design. Not sure how old your kids are. Start small. Buying them their own tool bag with basic tools from HF is empowering. Buying cheap $2 appliances from Goodwill for them to curiously tear apart without concern to see “how it works” is a great start. If they can put it back together that’s gravy. Being around them with a “not knowing it all attitude” is what I am learning to be better at.

Collaborative curiosity about the unknown to foster an unending love for learning is a fundamental goal. We are taking daily steps.

My oldest son is almost 3 and has shown a strong mechanical inclination so I want to start him off young. He already pretends to fix things with his toy tools and my tools when he sneaks one out of my bag.
Youngest son is still being brewed and has an estimated arrival date of May 2020 so there's still some time to prep for him...

My wife @cowgirl40 got us a gift for the barn for Christmas

For the record we discovered the source of the mean face. @CaptClose used to be in a hard core rock band. He had to do many poser pics with his cohort for poster pics and such. Heavy metal dudes never smile on posters or album covers. There you have it.

Ironically, the mean face pic pose has brought more laughs in all we ask. It’s awesome!!!

@CaptClose graced us with his presence over Christmas. The fam had a great time with him. It was a mixture of wrenching and creating life moments.

We took @Cowboy45 to buy some i-widget at the AT&T store. @Cowboy45 walked in with cash 1” thick (singles, 5s, 10s). He had been saving up for 5years. Folks at the AT&T store did not know how to process cash. They looked for their cash register. @Cowboy45 learned about pre-tax vs post-tax cost. Luckily @CaptClose always carries a vitamin jar of lose change in his 80, which tithed the gap.

The customary mean face ensues. The store manager had an “angry bird” version of the mean face. A new one for us.

We hit the barn this weekend. @CaptClose was longing to see Old Landy. It was an epic trip we both did to get her. Forever life changing in so many ways. He helped @SipLife with the Cavazos touch on interior finishing of the Mustang. He also help @Cowboy45 remove and install precups on the 2H head. We talked about the Old Landy build plan.

We also tried to verify if the Chevy corvette motor in Bluebonnet could rotate after a marvel mystery oil soak for 4 months. Confirmed it was a dud. 2H will go into it in the next two months as part of @SipLife ‘s build.

We hit the barn this past weekend just before the elves returned to school. @Cowboy45 spent a good deal of time making headway on his engine rebuild. He will document this more in his Old Landy build thread in the 45 section. He rebuilt a rocker arm, set the timing gears on the crankshaft, number 1 and 2 idler gears, and locked in the camshaft gear. It was easier and more certain to get this done with the cylinder head off

He then installed the cylinder head that was recently re-decked after precup installation. @Cowboy45 is becoming a good engine builder. Meticulous and by the FSM. Doing it right the first time is high with him. He also loaded in new lifters and lifter rods and placed the lifter covers in place. He sandblasted thermo housing, water pump housing, painted them, installed new water pump. He also installed the oil cooler after adding gaskets and seals to the oil heat exchanger.

Pics of precups getting decked.
