just got this:

TIKKA XP®² | Petzl

I'm impressed. It's very nice. The diffuser in particular is working surprisingly well. The red LED is nice to have too. And the blinkers make it nice to have when biking (although the Red LED is pretty directional and not covered by the diffuser.) Comfortable too.

More powerful and longer-lasting batteries than the 4 LED Petzl I got earlier. 60 lumens this one.

Man, I just love how electronics get better so fast...

Just wait for the CORE battery stuff to come out for the tikka and zipka lines. Rechargeable from almost anywhere...usb, 12v car adapter, wall outlet, etc.

Where did you buy it from?

local sporting goods store, a present for getting older... :)

interestingly, and surprisingly, the headband adjuster has a simple whistle built-in, and I'll be darned if that isn't the loudest whistle I've heard in a very long time...

Petzl has great gear! I have a myo xp that I have had for 4 years and never had a hiccup. Used it in the summer on my hard hat while fighting fire in the dark, and use I in the fall for night backpacking and hunting, and just around the house when I need both hands! Good stuff

I have the older model and it is great! I got some rechargeable for it. During the off-season I used walking our boys!

Been using the SAME Tactikka plus since 03, Petzl sets the bar!

In my book, Petzl is definitely the way to go. Great quality at a reasonable price. I use mine almost daily for everthing from reading to turning wrenches. Solid investment!

Amazon.com: Princeton Tec Corona 8 LED Headlamp: Sports & Outdoors

I have an older, dimmer version of this one from Princeton Tec. Works great on the farm. Runs off of 3 AA batteries. All my other hiking electronics gear uses AA batteries so I can dual purpose spares. Works nicely when wearing a hat which I nearly always wear when outside. It can be aimed up and down some. Hiking in the woods or walking in a field at night often only requires 1 or 3 of the LEDs lit.

Features I would look for in the next head lamp. Uses AA batteries, aimable light, and dimmable. A nice 3+Watt LED that is dimmable would be nice.

Well guys, its that time to update this thread. I need a new headlamp, takes aa batteries and has red or green leds or lens for night vision around campfire. Any suggestions?

I have the petzl tikka 2 and the black diamond storm. Gave my kid the petzl after I bought the storm, it's a great headlamp (storm is better)

feedback on my Petzl: the elastic band has gone limp on me. That's not great. Must have too big a head or something...;)

How timely! My Storm was great. Loved it. A few nights ago it started going nuts and randomly switching modes. I stomped it into oblivion and tossed the parts. Today I found the box, warranty and receipt. 3 year warranty. I wish I knew that before I killed it. 16 months old. Shopping again.

Petzl always makes quality stuff. never had any problems with their headlamps and ice tools

Love my Petzl...never had one before because I despise them. Got one at LL Bean when I was in Maine, and it has a 3 function, self darkening feature which is the cats nutz.

90$...charges by USB...sweet as hell

I do that monthly to my Casio GZone (or toss it out the truck window at 65mph). Still works over all these years.

Raffle prize - Snow Peak head lamp. Don't recall the lumens, but advertised as following your eyes...yea right. The light toggles up and down with your head movement. No idea on the cost, but would imagine like everything else Snow Peak, it probably isn't cheap. Would not recommend it.

If you want a nice headlamp check out the petzl Nao and the Petzl Tikka RXP. I own these both along with a lot of other headlamps. These two pack a punch with very bright light. Both are rechargeable and the Nao you can put in AAA's if your lithium battery dies. Bonus is the reactive technology as it auto dims and brightens along with changing beam pattern depending on what you're looking at. Customizing the features with the computer is also a nice touch. Battery life on the Nao is insanely long if used properly
