What do you guys think about the hoop??? I was originally thinking I would make the main hoop so it sits above the emblem and would have two smaller diameter tubes that ran from the main hoop laterally in between the head light and blinker. And 90 back down to the bumper. ?? But then my neighbor said it looked good with one hoop just above the light bar. I like it now. But wanted more opinions cause I'm kind of undecided.

One hoop works for me,fits they style of the bumper and you can use the bumper as a step...I dont like hoops around the lights, because they make the 80 look like a Douchebag hipster ( takes a sec to visualize) ...lol

Just wanted to say that your attention to detail is impressive, I really like the detent for the fairlead.

Keep the pictures coming.

Lol.. I'm thinking one hoop for me. Easier to climb on and kneel on when under the hood.

Nice engineering and design. One hoop the way you have it is perfect .

Thank you! Much appreciated. It's the little details that make great things even better.
Speaking of the fairlead area I need to add a little something below the fairlead to protect it from lower impacts. trying to keep that thing smooth. I am also planning on adding some small attachment points. loops for when I tie my kayak down and left and right mounts for cb antennas. Those will be made of stainless steel and tig welded to the bumper. They'll be left bare stainless when I paint it. The flat areas under the head lights will get some type of traction surface treatment as well for standing on. ( slipped off the last bumper 1 too many times. Lol)
More pics probably by the end of the middle or end of week. And thanks again for the positive words.

I definitely vote one hoop. It is simple, looks great, and well thought out. I will be following this build.

Sub'd

Wow, super clean job. I really like the design. I AM NOT a fabricator, but took a welding class last year and built my own bumper. It is absolutely ghetto looking compared to yours. I have a new level of respect for professional welder/fabricators.

How long did it take you to get the bumper to this stage?

Looks great!
Just my $0.02... I would match the bend angle of the hoop to the angle of the grille. It would be more harmonious with the styling that way.

Why are we talking about attaching hoops instead of talking about attaching 2 perfectly awesome Gatling guns to the bumper? I mean, the guy can build machine guns and bumpers...kinda peanut butter and jelly in my book. :meh:

Great looking bumper! Looking forward to see what you come up with for the rear

Nice work! A question about your pexto table - where did you source it?

To where it is in the pics.... The center section took about 2.5 hrs, that was the easy part. The wings took a half hr to layout and plasma cut,1.5-2 hrs to tack up, check fit then weld and finish grind. Then about an 1.5 on the middle fair lead area. To figure out layout and cut and fill back in. The hoop actually took a bit because I couldn't decide size and how I wanted it. No time to bend and cut. I spent more time thinking about it and what I wanted in a bumper than it actually took creating.
It is at the point now where iam happy with the overall shape and fit. And now I'm working on all the fine details and features that I want. ( ie.. Stainless steel attachment points, Under lighting or rock lights, additional needed bracing and my soft shackle/Prolink recovery mounts Which after running the numbers today I can do it how I wanted. It's coming along.
Sounds like your just starting out. Keep at it. Some info that may be of help to you on your next bumper build. I always start with the middle. Or mounting. It's the most important part. And I always leave the uprights big to trim as the shape evolves. Once the middle is done I build top down. So you can visualize the shape you want and how you want it to go around the vehicle looking down on it. Then you can do the face of the bumper and then continue as far down as you want.you get the picture. I usually go as far as needed to just cover the radiator support or what ever ugliness is revealed after removing the factory junk. And you only have to figure out one side wing. And then cut two sets from your template. So you know you have exact set. And even though I can design on the computer I almost always layout in cardboard first. I like to see it in real life. Once the design is set. Then I'll transfer my templates to the computer.so next time I can have them laser cut if I want. Or just to mess around with the design later. Oh and one more thing if your just starting with welding. Aside from the actual process. The most important thing along with Cleanliness and zone prep is knowing you welding schedule on large multi part structures.what I mean is understanding how the heat will move and bend your part. And knowing where to lay a bead and when to just tack and come back and weld later after you have more opposing material in place to midigate deformation. Hope that helps a little. And sorry to those that know for the rambling.

Thanks as well. And that was my original intent. But when you see my recovery points you'll see why the tube couldn't be like that.

Lol. I would love to do a apocalyptic madmax build!!! With guns and shields. Or some James Bond sh*t

Quite nice. Appreciate the effort given to sink in the fairlead area. Anyone would be proud of that bumper, it's a gem!
