Interesting there’s frame rust holes next to non- rusted parts. Did the truck apend it’s life on the beach, immersed in salt water? My 100 lives about 250 feet from the beach and has no holes. But it never actually gets driven in the salt. It also rains a lot here and isn’t a warm environment. 23 years, 445k miles, and no holes.

If it was an old Land Rover I’d say weld it up. But an LC? Parts car for sure.

Only history I know of is that it was PA truck before coming to Northern Virginia, where John drove it sporadically.

Honestly as i've disassembled it, its made me appreciate how they are constructed but I shake my head because of Toyotas total failure to try and factory rust proof their flagship vehicle that is supposed to have a 25 year service life.

I too agree its interesting because the frame rails that are visible behind the rear wheels are completely clean, but you go 8" towards the rear and its holes everywhere.
If it was an old land rover id certainly be doing everything I could to salvage it.

Fun fact my Father @Landschooner who got me into Cruisers, almost bought a Series II which would've set him on a different trajectory than the one that led him to buy the cruiser. However the one he went to look at (this was in the late 80s near Marblehead, MA) had a totally rotted out frame, so he ended up just buying a Nissan 720, which was replaced by another 720, which was replaced by his FJ60.

Im on the lookout for a 720 or a D21, because i loved his 720, which prompted me to get an 86.5 d21 years and years ago.
Funny how what you grow up in is what you want to gravitate back towards.

Except PT Cruisers and Caravans- my parents had those too and they were junk.

Well, sad but not surprised you're going this route. Honestly I would have done the same thing, and your other Cruiser will benefit. This project ain't worth that kind of headache.
Despite the profit I am still sad.
Wreck Diver...so maybe this vehicle would've suited you better...because as I stated, it looks like Crusty couldve let the charge for the search for the titanic...with you at the helm?

Nah. Based on the corrosion present, Crusty went down with the Titanic 105 years ago.

Well, crusty is off to the toaster factory in the sky, with a stop off at Iron Pig to donate its drivetrain.

I’ve gotten used to seeing the crusty carcass in the back yard for the past two months, but it was time to go, and Lance was giving me money so that helped.

Lance came and picked crusty up yesterday and conscripted his son into assisting as well.
