So after i went through great lengths to source all of the A/C parts for the Fj55, I just found out that the evaporator core has a leak. the tech is saying that it can not be repaired since it's internal. I have no idea how to fond a replacement core, so I am wondering if there is a repair service out there.

Sorry to hear the news. The OEM evaps and cores are long gone....but worth figuring out the part number and seeing if someone in Japan can run stock...

Aside from that... I would get someone to actually pressure test the core itself minus the copper plumbing and the expansion valve.

I haven't yet tested a factory OEM a/c core for the fj55 that was bad. Plenty of leaking compression flare nuts, but no eroded cores. You have it torn down that much, go for a true leak test and pressurize in a tub of water.

^^^ and look at the aftermarket hot rod AC suppliers, you might find a generic evap core about that size and shape...

A good a/c shop can have custom evap cores made. (Kinda like a old school radiator recore)

If you look closely, the end plate and the macaroni elbows are all soldered onto a chunk of the "core" which is nothing more than lots of thin plates with lots of tubes passing through.

How did they determine it is the evap core leaking? Did they pull vacuum on the entire system?

Hopefully it is something other than the evap core.

When you are able, will you post pics of your work? I would like to get started on the AC in my Pig next. I need a condensor, what kind are you running?

Like others have said I would confirm before I tried to source another, not impossible but you seldom hear about evaporator cores developing leaks.

If you have shop air, some hose and clamps and a bucket of water you should be able to test at home.

Good luck.

Pablo, I put this one on mine with a stock a/c system:

Nostalgic AC - 14 X 20 Superflow R-134a Condenser - Painted Condenser - Condensers

Sorry for the hijack.
