What's this diesel swap you speak of? Didn't know that was legal here in commiefornia! I'm thinking I need to buy it, take it to yotamasters and have them rebuild the front axle, and drive the piss outta it... When it's time for a motor rebuild, get it rebuilt to the tune of $2500 and still have a nice cruiser for around 6- 6500 bucks... If my $$ figures aren't too far off.

Michael of West Coast Cruisers would know best as he has some killer diesel cruisers here. But I believe I read maybe in an issue of 4WD Toyota Owner magazine that the law for importing diesel vehicles from Japan or OZ was 15 years but now it's 20 years. So I guess go find yourself a 91 diesel 80?

It's still up for sale... Says "smog check required".. well, no duh... smog checks are always required when selling a rig. I wonder if there is more wrong with it than the poster on CL is letting on? Maybe I need to drive to Solana Beach with $1500 cash in hand and see what he says. :)

I paid a little less for my '96, with a known bad head gasket. I did all the repair work an that myself. That was about 2 years ago. I am still fighting the P0401 engine code though.

@ $2500 it may be worth it just in parts, especially if it has the magic dash knob.
