@bluecruiser @paflytyer

A couple questions I can't find answer to after searching the thread and webpage.

I see that I get one shirt as part of my registration. In the excitement and stress of registering, I don't recall selecting a shirt size with the registration. Am I just remembering poorly and it was in there? Do we just select the size we want at check in? I was getting ready to order official gear and wanted to make sure I knew what the heck I was doing.

Second question is related to meal tickets for catered dinner. Registration comes with two. If you need extra, do you pre-order or buy them at check-in?
Great questions. Yes, everyone selected a drivers shirt size during registration. That one is included in the registration and needs no other selection, payment, etc. The store is for additional shirts, hoodies, stickers that you’d like for family, friends, your favorite co-worker etc.
For the meal tickets, we cover the additional meals over 2. We once had a plan to charge for those but to keep some of our administrative time down, @paflytyer and I will keep serving until everyone’s been through. We have a good count from everyone’s registration details. So, in summary, you are covered for the catered meal for your family.

Thanks for the support everyone!

Excellent. Thanks for the clarification and putting up with my bad memory.

the #southerncruisers are doing a Sunday overnighter coming from Sante Fe, then day trips from Silverton this year before HIH starts. Little different pace than usual. We'll post up when we figure out routes.

I will be very interested in this! Please keep me posted!

Came here to see if this will impact HIH at all this year.

@bluecruiser @paflytyer Just curious and hopefully worried for no reason, but what is the cutoff date in order to get a refund on registration if one can’t make it? I don’t think I remember seeing this info anywhere.

We will full refund for however long PayPal allows it. Once we get past that date, we will refund, less all of the fees we have already covered.

Let’s call it June 8th. Why are you considering not making it ??

Holy cow! This is County Road 2 from Silverton up to Animas Forks as of May 22nd! Something tells me that the flowers this year are going to be INCREDIBLE! Late thaw and plenty of water = tons and tons of blooms.

I work as a government contractor and the government was too late to put in a re-bid for the contract I work for. So there is going to be a lapse in employment starting this Thursday. The powers that be say we need to be prepared for up to 6 months before the contract stuff is figured out. I am pretty certain that I will unemployed through June and I am not sure about July.

This can be seen as good news as I won’t have to use any leave to make it to HIH! And on the flip side...I won’t have to take leave because I won’t be employed. Also usually with a new job, they don’t start you off with a full amount of days to use as leave, so there’s that also.

Me and the wife have to crunch numbers. I think I can still make it either employee or not, but it’s on shaky ground right now...and I hate it really bad.

HIH is my happy place, and if there is one place I need to go because of all of this, it’s my happy place.

No worries @aaronrules if you can’t make it last minute, worst case scenario, I’ll be you for the weekend. 😝

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. Hope you can work out a good solution.

This is a perfect example of how Chris and I operate HIH. We basically try to recoup all of our own costs and we try to avoid shelling out any of our own money. Two classic examples of us failing miserably at that.... HIH6 when we rented the entire Silverton RV Resort and lost money because we didn't charge enough for registration, and HIH7 when we spent $5000+ to have what was supposed to be a luxury shower trailer brought to Kendall and it ended up being a disaster. We've always felt that if someone is willing to bring their entire family to HIH, we can cover the meal costs to feed them one night. Chris and I don't even eat until every single person at the event has been fed. Chris was so hungry last year that I had to keep him from licking the meat tongs.

As Chris mentioned already, the HIH swag and the very little money we make off of that basically covers the time we put into creating, ordering, sorting and selling that gear. We've always been transparent with our costs/returns. If we try and order too much in advance and that stuff ends up not selling, then we're stuck with it. We're not a business and we're not interested in selling/shipping swag throughout the year. We still like the fact that if you have a HIH hoodie, it means you were there. The coveted windshield decals are always a hot item and we could probably sell 100 of them, but every registered 100 gets only one. If you see a 100 with that on the windshield, you know what it means. That's part of the exclusivity to it. It keeps it fresh and exciting and keeps people wanting to come back again and again.

Make sure your CB works, buy some swag, bring some food for the pot luck, bring some beer from your local area to share, bring a camera, bring some rain gear, be ready to have fun and arrive with the idea that you'll make some new friends during the week. That's about it. Support the HIH community, support the vendors that support us, support TLCA and support Silverton.

And.... if you've never seen snow before, this will be your lucky year. We have areas with 40+ feet of snow right now and it's supposed to snow today and tomorrow above 8500 feet. The Polar Plunge may actually be jumped from a snowbank this year. Brrr.

I'll be leaving HIH and heading straight to Montana for the next 10 days for our annual Ultimate Dadventure.

Fresh snow on the mountains here this weekend. If you need help making Montana travel plans, send me a PM. Glad to help. And if you make it through Bozeman the first pint's on me. (We have like 45 micro breweries here. Well, almost that many...)

I'm up here full time now and absolutely LOVE IT, if you want to grab a beer in Missoula PM me.

This guy was on our property on last week, sure beats the Dallas suburbia scene.

Mine too. I was wondering why you have been so quite lately, hope you can make it!

Going to need to change your name to montanamateo. I was thinking of retiring in Montana but now I'm worried there might be too many Texans. Maybe I will have to settle for Idaho.

We spend a lot of time in Montana and have a cabin in Yaak (NE corner) but most of our time is spent in the SW part of the state because it's only a 9-hour drive to get to Cooke City. We're probably only there for 30 days out of the year but I've learned a lot of the trails and backcountry roads. I've been pushing @bluecruiser to come up there with me so we could start planning a Montana HIH. We have some friends in Cooke City and have access to land and rentals for about 40 people.

As I told you a few years ago, I'm all in for a Montana extension/excursion.

I haven't been to Cooke City in probably 10 years. Beartooths are amazing!

Officially I'm not a Texan, just lived there for a few years. The wife is the Montanan.
I guess that's ok. I've lived there for short periods in the past. And I was born in Roswell, NM, which might as well be Texas.
