'97 Anniversary at $12,000 or '94 for $8,500?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for: something for a good price that I can sink a few dollars into and drive everyday (to my 3 miles to work) :)

I'm going to have a tough time explaining to my insurance company how I managed to roll in Moab after stating here I wanted to do it. For the record, I don't want to roll my Cruiser off a cliff. Now, if I had back that brand new 95 Ford Pickup I had back in 95 I would gladly let someone give it a push. That pickup was the spawn of Satan.

Idaho prices are really high. We don't have rust. But you you can't even find a 91/92 for less than 4500. There has never been a FZJ80 advertised in Idaho for less than 8k no matter what the mileage. I watch intently for a deal.

3k for a 93? WOW! I'd probably deal with rust for a price like that. At 3k I'd be thinking rock buggy.

My fianc, feya,....future wife, needed a DD for school. She has two years left... After that it gets "Stuff"..... She already wants it lifted and ARBd out....But yer right, 2 years, game on....Maybe not a HC rock truck, more or less something for the long trips....

HOLLY CRAP! Is someone on crack?!! That dealership has been selling cruzers for years...maybe it's a really old post. I could see $24,000 for it, lockers, low miles, white, but it's not a 40th. Oh and the wood trim is de-laminating :D
IMO, I use to want a lx450 because the lexus name, but I have since realized the name Land Cruiser is of legends and a 40th fzj80 triple locked is the pinnacle of crusiers....other than a 105 series but that's non-us stuff.
I think the door moulding on the 40th (also standard non-us) looks much better than without, and the two tone leather looks soo much better.
BTY, My cruiser had 68k miles on it when I bought it...so low mile nice ones are still out there, I have seen ones with 150k+ still look like new.
So keep looking and get one you really want since it's going to be a DD and plus the US 80's are more a luxury wagon get one that is still in that shape.
Oh one more thing, the pre-95 1/2 have one UGLY dash :D

Or you can spend a little bit more and get something like this

Do these actually exist. Be kinda cool to have one with that kinda of mileage.

Man this should be a sticky. A little FYI on CarSearchUsa. They're the masters of bait and switch. When I was looking for my 94 I ran across their ads on autotrader. Called them up and everything "sounded" good. I had two employees making a trip there for other reasons and asked them to stop into that lot and check things out as I was dead serious about dropping some coin for an ultra low mileage 80. The guys visited but no low mileage 80's to be found. Everything was 100k miles + . They took pictures for me of what as on the lot and noted the mileage of each. The cruisers were the exact same as those posted on autotrader that supposedly had super low miles. That place has been at it for over a year. Others on the board have reported similar experiences, with that dealer always saying, "yeah yeah we had a low mileage 80 but it just sold." Be freaking careful if you're dealing with those deadbeats.

Oh one more thing, a lx450 has to run on atleast plus or preimum...if not the check engine light comes on.

Check your facts before you post BS Bear.

I've never heard of there being any difference in the LC's or LX's in regards to engine, emissions, fuel system or the like..., just in visual presentation (cladding, wheels, front corner lenses, etc..) and creature comforts (climate control, better leather/fake wood etc..). I run regular gasonline and no...., ahh I better not say it. :D

check my facts hu?? well guess what I had a lx450 and every time I put in regular the check engine light came on...knock sensor code as I recall (this was 4 years ago). and i belive it was even stated to run premium.

whatever if you own one, you'd know better than me but I'm speaking from my experiance
Hmm...well something was definetly wrong with your's then. The LX needs nothing extra or special. I ran 85 octane in mine for 3 years, got the best gas mileage of anyone I know, descent power, etc, no check engine light (well twice O2 sensors gave a error, but after a good mud romp even that cleared up, this was with no exhaust after the cats, so the last O2 sensor was basically out in the open).

Not sure why your's would have gotten the knock sensor going, maybe a overly sensitive knock sensor, or maybe carbon deposits in there that would show themselves and start a knock if the fuel burned too fast (lower octane burns faster than high octane).

Good Luck..

yeah well when I first got it, I figured no difference than the lc. I guess it was the owners manual that stated premium...maybe a recomendation. someone with a lx will have to check. but I'm sure that's where I read it when I had mine and since the light would come on with regular and off with premium, I just put in premium...who cares I got rid of that overdressed :princess: and it took me 4 years to get back into land cruisers

Sample size = 1 is not representative and no basis for claiming that the LX450 has to run higher octane or it will trip the MIL. That's simply not a fact. I believe your experience was with a vehicle that had some type of problem that should have been fixed.

The 1FZ-FE engine is exactly the same in the LX450 and the Toyota Land Cruiser. Neither requires premium when normally aspirated and neither will trip a MIL if run on regular unless there is some other problem.

If you (or any other LX450 owner) can confirm that the LX450 OM specifies premium then that would be news to this group.

Ok, this is from a '97 LX450 Owners Manual, inside the back cover it states:
"Fuel Selection: UNLEADED gasoline, Research Octane Number 91 (Octane Rating 87) or higher"

I'll admit that is a bit confusing...what do you mean the LX is overdressed? You mean you can live without the CD changer, and without the body cladding? :D

Hey Eric,
if you really "don't" want to roll your 91 while in moab make "sure" to stay the the left on the last drop of the z turn on moab rim. I gaurantee it will not turtle over onto its roof into a very large rock that has some nice blue paint on it still........... silly me I bought a 92 after my 91 died though..

For anyone that is looking for a beater, there is a 94 that is available in New Mexico.

Chama94.Pic1.jpg

Asking price was $4k. A phone call got him down to $3,500 with little effort. It's a candidate for a trail truck. Minor damage to LF door, LR door, LR quarter, and hood. Both front and rear bumpers are dinged. 175k miles and a native NM truck from what the current owner told me.

No lockers.

Eric is right about Idaho, I am also in Idaho and I have been looking for a cruiser for a few months and after I sold my 85 FJ60 (Sold it first day it was in the paper) I started to look around and there was nothing around 300 miles radius that was decent or the right price. I ended up buying a good friend of mine FZJ80 '94 with 130K miles, lockers and very well maintained with records. I paid $9200 for it. It needed the axle seals and a new CD player, the CD will not eject, but other than that a decent vehicle. I looked at a '97 with 115K miles that was priced at $12000 but when I asked the seller about maintenance, he gave along stare out in space and that was good enough for me to stay away from it and besides the interior was trashed by pets.

'94 FJZ80 fact. lockers.

Based on the advice given in this thread, this morning I decided to fillerup the LX 450 with 87 octane. Guess what came on when I started it this evening? You got it Bear80...the check engine light.

Next question, will it go away if I put in the good stuff next time around?

well first thing, regardless would be to have the code read. You can head over to autozone/advanced and they will read the OBD2 for you. If it is fuel related I guess you could try like I did and put in 91, and I strongly doubt it's a problem with the engine. My lx450 had 15k miles on it so.....but some smart a**es like Beowolf might disagree
