94 Starter issue ?

Just an update, I got my new Denso starter today and installed it. The truck fired up right away. I let it run for a few minutes and would shut it off and let it sit for a few minutes and it would start back up. I did this about five times and the last time I attempted to start it, I got nothing, just a click. Is the above mentioned "94 delayed cranking. Starter, ignition switch, or other?" or Hot Shot KitDetails | Painless Performance my best bet?
Do the Ford solenoid, you will solve the problem, cheap and easy to do.

I had a old runner that would start then not start, changed battery out, changed starter out. Would still sometimes not start let it sit for bit then would start. Ended up the power cable to the starter had corrison in it replace the big cable and all was good again

I appreciate all the quick replys and Im sure its obvious that I am a total newbie when it comes to electronics and they are scary to me so when you say its easy, is there any info out there as to how to install and how easy? It looks like a relay, cant I just swap the current relay if there is one?

Thanks for the reply and I checked the power cable and it looks really good, I even got sand paper and cleaned both ends.

X2. It works and total cost with the solenoid, wire, wire splice connectors, and fuse, probably 30 bucks. Here's the solenoid I purchased:

THanks for the reply and is your setup the same as the Hot Shot KitDetails | Painless Performance
Im just trying to figure out which one would be easier for me.

It serves the same purpose. Personally I prefer the Ford Solenoid because of the simplicity, connections are bolted on which will reduce the possibility of corrosion that the painless kit can be subject to, and the Ford solenoid looks more durable/heavy duty.

Without reading all the responses you have above, i had the same thing on my 93 (150kms not sure what that is in miles) turns out the little rubber grommet under the starter broke off and water gets in. Mine was easily fixed by getting underneath it and spraying a heck of a lot of contact cleaner directly in the hole. Never had a problem since and i stuck some hollow silicon in there to protect it for the future

Im hoping we found the problem. After double checking all of the cables and wiring, we noticed the bolt holding the ground wire from the battery on the engine drivers side was slightly loose. This may explain the motor turning over here and there. Thanks again for all of the help you guys, could not have done it without the help.

Well its been a few weeks and my starter problem came back. When I turn the key, I get lights on the dash but nothing. I hear a click in the starter but it does not turn over. Since I was away from home and had no tools to tap the starter, I just turned the key from off to on a few times and it finally fired. Got it home and shut it off and on a few times it fired and then it quit again. I noticed that when it wont turn over if I turn the key from off to on sometimes a couple times and sometimes as many as 10, it starts. Is there something that I am missing? Is the Ford solenoid the best option? I was hoping to find the issue but I dont know where to begin. Thanks again for the help.

My mechanic told me that sometimes the starter is ok but the flywheel due to age, some of the teeth start to wear down. In my case, that's what happened. I was not going to pull the engine out just to check if some o the teeth were worn out. So, I went for the cheap option; the Ford solenoid. Eight years later, the truck is running fine. Don't know if the Ford solenoid will fix your problem, but it's worth a try....

It's been 2 weeks since I did the Ford Solenoid on my son's 94. Thanks to @jvazquez53. No delayed starting since. One thing I noticed prior to the fix, if I held the key in the start position for 3 to 5 seconds it would turnover quicker than swinging the key 5 to 10 times. Highly recommend the Ford Solenoid.

Summit Cruisers, can you give me some info on the install and wiring of the ford solenoid? I am a total newbie when it comes to electronics. Thanks

Came across this thread on the "click" . Any thoughts? This is exactly whats happening with my 94. I was hoping to find a solution with the current wiring before attempting the ford solenoid. Thanks again for the help.

The Cruiser won't start "CLICK"

Remove everything from the positive battery terminal and clean each lug. Clean every ground in the engine bay while you're at it. I had the same 'click' problem and this fixed it. I've never seen an issue like this with any other vehicle.
