I have a 1992 Toyota Truck stander 4 banger 4x4

The truck worked fine in 4x4 till a few days ago .....

I shift the shifter and it does not go in

I am new to this truck ...

where should i start ?

Jon

your gonna have to give more info than that. Does this happen in every gear? can you feel it engaging? Does the clutch pedal feel at all weird? Any grinding?

I think he means it will not go into 4x4 drive now i.e. the shifter is actually the 4wd selector?

I would try moving the truck back and forth first to see if that helps the transfer case. Hubs locked?

Will it go into 4hi?

Sorry i am new to the truck and i am still trying to learn about my truck.

I pull the slector into 4H and no noise no fealing .......... drove the truck still not in 4x4

It has been wet and cold here would that make a difference ?

ADD sorry i do not know what that is.

Thanks
Jon

Look at the center of the front tires, if there's a plastic hub cap, you probably have ADD. If it's a locking hub (selectable with a little dial) you don't.

If you have ADD then there's a vacuum activated part of the front diff that may not be working, and if it doesn't work, then you will not have 4wd.

Drop the front skid plate, and the 2 connections are right on the front of the diff.... If they are not knocked off, follow them up into the engine compartment and see if the other ends have come loose. If those aren't loose, then I think there is a electrically operated vacuum switch that feeds them, and it may be an electrical problem....

Take a look in the FAQ thread here for the 93 factory service manual, it'll shed some light on this!

My late '91 certainly has ADD....

2ndgen is right: the vacuum cylinder is on the front of the differential. Can't miss the two vacuum lines going to it. When I get home tomorrow I can take pics of how you can plug the hoses up so that it will be only engaged. Easy way to check the electrically controlled valves (which are mounted on the right fender, along your inner quarter panel).
