I stand corrected. Thursday morning, The Mule's front CV failed and bound up on highway 29, and tore the nose off my t-case.

The CV did NOT fail.

The lower joint did cuz it has an improper angle and finally wore out from all the bad vibes all its lifted life.

If the CV failed it would have fell on the ground and slid off of the slipyoke leaving your output flange in good shape with a chunk of CV still bolted to it.

Since the lower joint failed it let go of the shaft and then the shaft flew around voilently till it finally ripped off the output on the Tcase.

The toyota CV is a strong part. Stronger than a Tcase output, Id say.

Could be, for all I know. There ain't much left to piece the disaster together with.

Well Chopper, the results are in your prognosis' favor: the front U-joint failed, bound up the front DS which tore the t-case off, smashed up the adapter, split the speedo cable, knocked the exhaust pipe loose from the manifold, split the fuel line, lifted up the passenger side floorboard 2" and bounced out somewhere on the highway.

(insert golf clap)

Toyota CV are tough :wrench:

Still a might skiddish about my truck these days. I was pulling the hill out of Calistoga on my way to work in third, roughly 3300 revs (so about 43 MPH, no speedo cable), and I heard this loud whizzing off to port. Freaked me out until I saw it was some jackass on a crotch-rocket passing me against oncoming traffic.

Alright, back to the program...

Greg, have you made progress on getting a new shaft?

In a word....NO.

It's not an issue till the snow flies as until then I just lock in and get out of what I need to. In the snow I like to have the hubs locked therefore being able to reach down and shift to 4WD. Then is when the shaft is spinning and could cause trouble. No more than I use it otherwise it isn't a problem. I am thinking about haveing it balanced this summer or fall therefore shouldn't matter whete the U joints are as long as its balanced...right?

I WOULD buy one though just dont feel like getting screwed over the net. 1. getting the wrong shaft and either being stuck with it OR out 2 ways or shipping. 2. Getting a piece of crap and being basically where I am now except for lighter in thepocket. Most guys wouldn't do someone but there are those that will. I lost a grand through paypal selling a competition treedog one and it won't happen again.

Is a SHAME there isn't anyone around here that I can get one from.

I had a chance at a NICe aluminum topper for my truck. Didn't buy it because I don't have aa tailgate and cannot find one. I have looked for at least 3 years..NONE..

I can't believe that I can't get a front shaft and a tailgate over years of looking! I know these trucks last and are great vehicles BUT Chevys and Fords aren't anywhere near as hard to get parts for....

Have lookeed at buying a OEM gate and shaft but good god ... the gates don't have any hardware and the shafts are near $400.

I have so much money in the truck now I will NEVER get 1/2 of it out of it. I have near 6K in a truck with 215K on the clock. Not very wise. Won't happen again.

Next the 3.0 will die and they ae non existant.

I have had 2 back surgeries and have 5 disks witht the facet joints taken off and the bottom3 discs gone. I can't do a lot of stuff I once could. 4-5 hrs of wrenching puts me in the bed for a week....Whaaa Whaaa and all that stuff but it is quite disheartening. I live on a shoestring and can't afford to take a screwing that's the problem...I'm not just paranoid about interenet purchases. For thsoe that think Pay Pal wont break it off inya...you are mistaken.
