I see said the Blind Man!!! Although rare, sounds like a possible vehicle fire or a bunker buster ready to explode in a very warm engine compartment if the splash cap erupts under pressure. On my original vapor canister the bottom vent is attached to a very long hose exiting toward the rear of the vehicle away from the exhaust tubes. I say "original" because I'm the original owner and never had previous issues with the canister. Looks like I'll be extending that hose to the splash cap barbed fresh air tube. Thanx guys for the schematic and your installation expertise.

The splash cap is just that...it doesn't restrict airflow. Now that the question of fuel buildup in the canister has come up, it seems like it's main purpose may be to deflect any fuel purged from the air tube downward instead of in whatever direction the air tube happens to be pointing.

My original also just vented into the frame, not far from where the canister was located.

My opinion is that that fresh air inlet could be on the top or bottom of the cc and still function properly. I ordered several different canisters from amazon in a quest to find one with the proper diameter. Five canisters later and still no closer than slightly too large, I put one in with the vent positioned on top. I removed the splash fin, added a short length of fuel hose to the vent and ran it down to the line in the box frame. It works perfectly; no fuel smells in the engine bay, no whooshing tank, no burping at the pump, and while I don't "top off" the tank at pump I let the pump fill until it auto stops. I'd call that fixed.

I certainly appreciate all your comments. Would anyone like to comment further on your installation and canister type with a few photographs. The frustration with NLA and discontinued parts is increasing with each passing year. Wish we could find a cadre of small but dedicated manufacturers with an artisanal spirit to compliment our mark.

BUY A THROTTLE CABLE...that's a hot tip.

I'm sure it's been offered, but I cut mine open and refilled it with new carbon...still works fine. works and looks just like stock. the VCV, now, I prolly need to change.
