I bought a 1988 pickup with the 22re and I have been working on getting the engine, tranny, and gas tank switched over to my 1981 pickup. Long story short, I have gotten the engine ready to fire, and when I turn the key, nothing happens. The lights work, but I just can't figure out why it won't crank. :meh:

Could it be ground related? I've checked all of them and they seem to be good, but lets just double check I have them correct:

Engine bay:
-Battery negative to engine block
-Engine block to firewall
-Alternator ground from harness to p/s bracket
-Wiring from intake manifold to intake manifold ground
-Harness near fuse block to fender

Cab:
-Steering wheel column to body, not sure if this is correct or not
-Harness near fuse block to body
-Unknown ground from harness to body

Does anyone think it could be anything else besides the grounds?

Did the RE come out of an auto vehicle? If so you have to jump 2 pins in one of the connectors to simulate the neutral safety switch. When I did my swap the ground that was supposed to go to the intake wasn't connected correctly and it wouldn't start. So it could def be ground related.

As Sam said, if from an auto, you need to deal with the neutral start switch. If the 88 required the clutch to be engaged, you will have the same issue.

It came out of a MT vehicle. I just don't know what ground could be the issue, I've taken them all off and sanded the paint off and reconnected them.

What is the neutral safety switch? Would that be like clutch start cancel on the manual?

Also, as far as engaging the clutch, I have been holding the pin down on the sensor while turning the key, and it still wont turn. Even when I push the clutch start cancel button it wont turn.

OK, back to basics. Cable from battery hooked up to starter terminal? Little wire hooked up to solenoid?
