just bought an 87 4x4 22re for my 16 yr old son. truck runs like a champ,, except,,,,,, once to running temp and we shut off,,, trying to start again the engine just cranks and will not fire. once engine has cooled the engine fires and all is good.
anyone have this problem before ?? thanks in advance !!

I did. Never figured it out.

Disributer

I had the same problem on my 83. 99% that it is the distributer Let me tell you that i spent hours trying to figure this out. It basically comes down to the fact that heat builds resistance in electronics. Good luck let me know how it goes.:bang:

Ok had the same issue & my buddy whos a Toyota tech helped me:

Facing the motor- on the left side above the AC compressor/ below the upper radiator hose you will see two sensors facing forward.

One has brown cap/ one next to it has a green- "THINK" its the sensor under the brown plug.

Replaced it & never had a issue since.

Check to see if your fuel pump is running while you are cranking the engine, this is not an uncommon problem. The sensors the previous poster talked about could also be the problem, on is the cold start injector timing switch. You may find some help in the FAQ section.

Try this :

Toyota 4Runner and Pickup: Cheap Tricks

When the 22re is hot the fuel pump dosent always turn right on, you could have some bleed back causing a no fuel condition. Try this jumper, it will prove me wrong or right, eliminating the fuel pump circuit as a culprit. It makes the fuel pump turn on with ignition regardless of engine temp.
