I ordered new starter cable and engine ground as well as a few other electrical items. I just got home from an appointment so getting a late start today.

I was hoping for some feedback on the hood scoop. I think it's too far back from the front of the hood to really catch any airflow so I'm considering mounting it backwards to let heat out from under the hood. Where it will sit on the hood looks perfect to vent the heat off the top of the fan shroud where it has pretty high flow.

I think it looks good either direction.

In relation to the engine and radiator. I looks like it would blow right out the scoop if I mounted it backwards.

why not put a real hole in the hood now that you have a scoop?

That's the plan once I decide which way to mount it.

@gnob what do you think about mounting it backwards? Same scoop you have on your 4Runner isn't it?

i think it looks good either way. i kinda like the forward mount just to make up for the winch.
having a big hole in the hood allows a lot of heat out either way.
my scoop is an 08ish wrx.
i was able to catch the rear hood support to mount the rear end just added a couple pieces of steel for the forward mount spots.

I can make out the pic fine. Thanks. This is the one I have. It was a common recommendation on the Toyota forums for the 3.4 swap. I'll have to think about it.

Maybe ask the wife to keep me out of trouble.

I think I'm going to mount it backwards based on a couple things. Mainly because it pretty much aligns with the air flow coming off the top of the fan shroud and should direct it out.

If I had a super cool Hilborn Bug Catcher scoop to show off, it would definitely face forward. All you would see on mine is the throttle cable and top of the intake. Not cool enough.

And Broski reminded me of a thing called rain. Monsoon here can deliver horizontal floods from the sky.

Well.......I thought wrong. Obviously I didn't have my mind made up. Today I made a carboard template of the scoop to better get an idea of different positions on the hood. The scoop has long studs glassed in so it was difficult to position it.

So after WAY too much time farting around trying to make up my mind, I put it here and facing forward. It just looks better forward and I also thought about all the heat blowing out of it directly on top of my cowl vents. Where my air into the A/C enters the cab.

I cut a large opening and bent the edges down to help stiffen up the mostly flat sheet metal. No bracing left. It fits really well so I won't be "blending" it in. When I get back to paint mode I'll get it in epoxy and paint it.

It also clears my shock tower brace if I end up putting it in.

I have starter, ground and alternator cables on the way. I have some 16 AWG wires coming that match the winch solenoid control switch so I can get that wired up. Here's some pics of the final mounted battery cables.

Heat shrink chafe guard on the run that comes off the battery jump posts, behind the evap canister and down the inner fender to the shock tower.

Then down the shock tower right next to the exhaust. The only way to mount the two Adel clamps right where it goes under the body mount was to make a bracket and bend it over the frame to an M8 bolt hole that happened to be in the right place.

That scoop looks good there, I got the same one for my 5vz but after I cut the bracing out I accidentally dropped the hood on the intake and after that it was mostly clearanced.

The cables continue back along the rocker since the converter and muffler are right along the frame.

Maybe I don't "need" the heat sleeve but it does collect a LOT of heat there. That cable isn't cheap.

Crosses over the muffler and on top of the rear cross member. I was going to use hose clamps at the cross member but I didn't have any long enough. For now I just used the stainless zip ties I have.

Then into the battery box.

I got my master cylinder swapped out. Solid pedal again.

Since I'm waiting on more wiring I pulled my battery post, mount/electrical platform thingy. Got it deburred, hit it with the DA sander and painted it with some black textured bed paint I happen to have.
