85 and 89 brake master cylinders the same? or different?

Normally the '89 has a 7/8" bore master cyl with a single diaphragm booster. '85 has a 13/16" bore master and a single diaphragm booster.

Although, '89 was also the first year for the 1" bore master and dual diaphragm booster to come out.

Either way... no they are not the same, but the '89 can be put in an '85 if you want to change the braking performance of the vehicle (harder pedal), and the '85 in an '89 will cause a softer pedal.

They are different, especially between 4-cyl and 6-cyl. You can run the V6 master cylinder, but I would pay attention to where the rear brake line enters the master cylinder. I seem to recall some come in from the side, and other from the top. The front brake line is not a problem if you get the pipe from the master cylinder to the splitter on the booster. I run a master cylinder from a 1990's V6 truck in my 1985 with the larger V6 calipers and LC rotors.
