Not sure where to post this. I was looking on Autotrader and found a 1985 4Runner with 110000 for 5700.00 seems like a nice truck. Its only 30 miles from me and I will be in that are tomorrow if anyone is interested.

For that kind of money I would expect it to be built up pretty tough. If it's a stocker, it would sell for $2k max around here in top condition. For average condition, it would get $1500 top. A beater would go for a grand.

If you search Autotrader for 85 runner its comes up. Sorry can't figure out the link. If I didn't have 3 toyotas I would be picking it up.

2k max in top condition? Find me one in primo shape for 2k, and I'll give you 1k cash. I bought an '86 because I couldn't afford the premium for an '85. But if you can find me an '85, i would rather have it for its higher frame/stock EFI.

I've searched, and searched, and searched, and never can find a decent deal on an '85.

I found the 4runner on autotrader. It looks REALLY nice. My best guess is its worth between 6-7k. If it were an 84 or 86, it would be a 4k truck, but because of the SFA/EFI combination, it is more valuable. Combine that with the fact that so many people have bought 85's to build, then chopped them up, it is almost impossible to find a clean stock one.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Having owned both a SFA ('84 and an '85) and an IFS truck, I would MUCH rather buy the IFS truck and do a SAS on it. It will be much better off in the end, for about the same money. Search for the reasons, it's been discussed before.

2k max in top condition?

Guess I should qualify "top" stocker in my statement - I bought my 85 SR5, 3 years ago in Reno/Tahoe, for $3k - including a new reman engine (thats more than $2K with the labor that was done), LCE header, clean interior, everything worked, no tears, single owner with maintenance records, 275k miles on the clock, and only the slightest rust under the chrome body stripping. Without the engine, I doubt it could have fetched $2k, probably more like $1500 as per my first post. But that was 3 years ago... and the local market might be wildy different than other parts.

I didn't look at the OPs subject truck, so I can't speak to the $5700 number. But as I wrote, I would expect it to be built up pretty tough based on my experience. Now I'm getting curious to see this AutoTrader truck...

Edit: OK saw the truck. I just can't believe these things cost so much today! At the time I bought mine, I was worried that I was getting a raw deal. Today, I would have to agree with KLF, especially with the later model steering and TB/plenum already on board.

Thanks for the input I went by to take a look at it today and I didn't see it on the lot. Must of been a nice truck. I'll keep my 89 and build as I go.

be very careful when buying older truck. My runner was sold to me with 140,000 miles on the clock. Then one of my piston rods broke. According to my buddy, the speedometer was tampered with. :frown:

My 91 80 had 116k miles on the clock. About a month later I found a jiffy lube receipt that showed 212k miles on the clock. Oh well.

She's at 250k miles and she's in great shape.;)

still tows 5k w/out a problem..
