I recently bought an 85 4Runner that the PO had swapped from an auto to a manual and put dual cases in. The reverse light switch and 4wd light switch were not hooked up when I got the rig. I found the wires/connectors for the reverse lights under the hood by the starter in a mess of unused connectors, and can get the reverse lights to come on.

The problem is I can't find the wire that goes from the combo meter to the transfer case switch. According to my FSM it should be RY, but the only RY wire I can find is the one my finger is on in the attached pic (connector was in dash behind the radio). Grounding it out does not light the 4WD light.

Anyone know where I can find this wire/connection so I don't have to pull the combo meter and trace it all the way from there?

Why are you looking under the dash? The 4WD connector should already exist in the harness under the truck. As I recall, it's in the same bundle as the backup light. The switch will be on the transfer case.

I was looking everywhere for a RY wire. I thought the connector should be by the starter with the back up lights, but no RY wire there, so I expanded my search efforts. I talked to a buddy last night over the phone and he traced it backwards from the switch on his 85. It's green from the cluster to the connector by the starter and then RY from the connector to the switch. The FSM is not labeled correctly.
