has good spark, good compression, picks up #4 sometimes when cold but when it comes to temp starts missing .
any ideas what to look for next ?
Don't know much about this truck i just bought it .
Thanks for any help.

I would start with puling the valve cover and checking valve adjustment. If that checks out ok, you can rent whats called a "noid" light at O'rielleys or probably other parts stores. It plugs into the injector plug and flashes to make sure that injector is getting a signal from the ecu. You could also have a bad or clogged injector. In my case, I had a worn down cam lobe that was not letting the exhaust valve open. I had good compression, spark, and fuel but it was missing. If your spark plug is BLACK and your engine runs worse with #4 wire hooked up than disconnected a worn cam lobe could be your problem.

I had a dead cylinder on my son's 22RE and it turned out to be a clogged injector. Ended up changing the gas tank, it was full of rust.

Not surprised.

Just so you know ... those injector connecters are available from Del City, at least for those of us with the square connector. I just replaced all of mine and fixed all those splices.
