83 throttle linkage am I missing something?

Where the ball inserts into the carb side linkage. Only thing holding it is the circlip am I missing something? It’s starting to pop out here and there

that's it, your bracket is probably worn out. get another good used one. I have a few available

Mine has the clip facing the other way. It doesn't pop out, but I always thought it had more play than it should. I wondered if there used to be a bushing or similar in the socket.

I thought the hairpin clip should be rotated 180, just the straight part against the ball

Yes, but it probably won’t make a difference. It’s a metal ball and socket that rub against each other with load every time the gas pedal is pressed, eventually they will wear out.

ah ok didn't realize, i'll flip it around and see how it feels
