Steel Body Dolly

2 hours on the 60 this weekend. Sorry for the lack of progress, but travelling a lot for work lately. Finished the steel body dolly and got it attached to the body mounts. I will mount the wheels and get some pictures of the completed dolly later this week.

Steel Body Dolly Complete

1.5 hours on the 60 today. Finished up the body dolly today and got it put down on the wheels. Much better than the wood dolly. It is still not the right way to do it, but as long as someone else learns from my mistakes, I am alright with it. I may still have to unhook the rear leafs/shocks to get the dolly to clear the frame.

Removed the powering steering hoses and cooler as well:

Did anybody ever put a 60 Cruiser body on a horizontaly swinging turret so one could rotate the bottom of the body skywards. Rust repairs would be so much easier.

Yes

Most others make a rotisserie. Unforturnately, I wouldn't be able to rotate it with the height of the garage, so I had to put it on a dolly.

Disassembly work

2.5 hours on the 60 today.

Removed the driveshafts, removed the front bumper brackets (took an hour alone ), removed the charcoal canister and the gaurd around the pass side brake line manifold.

Quick question to all who have done it. Where is the proper spot to lift the engine from? I don't have a 2F engine manual yet and wanted the correct location.

I have seen a few engines out in other posts, but not exact lifting locations? Any body got pictures?

Engine Removal

1hr on the 60 last night. I pulled the engine and set it on the floor for now - still has tension on the chain to keep it from tipping.

Boys

Had to throw a shot of my boys driving the truck for the last time. I think the oldest one is going to miss not driving the truck for a while. Next time it comes back, they might be MUCH bigger at my current pace! :)

Disassembly work

1 hour on the 60 today. Pulled the steering box and the engine mounts. Started removing some of the front steering assembly, but I will need to find a puller for the pitman arm.

Sorry for the lack of progress, but 3 out of the last 4 weeks I was out of town on business.... time flies.

Just read this thread over again. I forgot I had posted in it. Do'h.

We have the same engine hoist. Harbor Freight?

Oh and awesome job!

Same here too. My brother is using it for his 240sx right now. :D

looking good, keep it up!

New parts and disassembly work

Not too much work yet this week. 1 hour today on the 60. I pulled the pressure plate, clutch, flywheel and bellhousing from the engine. Had to stop to get bolts to mount to the engine stand.

I spent most of my time this week getting parts for the truck.
  • Found a 2,000 lb engine stand (non-folding) on craigstlist this week.
  • Found a used ironman/BDS 2.5" lift from beatdown83fj60. He had shocks and full bushings as well. Used them for less than a year.
  • Picked up a set of 2 jaw pullers to get the steering separated as well.

Gotta love HF for the tools you use once a year.

Will do on the paint. Are there plastic strips between the leaves? If not, does anyone sell a kit to put in there?

Hm not sure. I just remembered how spiffy springs look repainted. Chicago did it with his SOA build-up.

Disassembly work

2.5 hours on the 60 yesterday. Got a lot done actually. Got the engine put on the new engine stand - took a few minutes to line it up and get it put on. Used four 12.5 x 1.75 x 80mm bolts to mount to the stand.

Used the new 2 jaw puller to pull the steering apart. Worked fairly well. Had to adjust the position of the arms a lot, somewhat time consuming. Pulled lots of brackets and parts off the frame as well.
