2F engine hoist points

Here is some of my 3F being lifted. The lifting points do not balance the engine properly and I had to shorten the chain to the rear eye to make it balance
I think its the t/case hanging off to one side that makes it rotate.
Someone must have removed your lifting eyes

Whoa Rosco! That 2F is different from mine. My engine hooks are exactly opposite and the power steering pump is on the carb side. I guess its the southern hemisphere. I bet the water goes down the drain the other way too.
 
I bent my rear hook lifting the engine out. Some of the hooks where a very weak design, so watch out. I modified mine so it will be much more sturdy.........

Its kind of dumb they put a closed eye at the front and an open lug at the rear.
The closed EYE is stronger and should have gone at the rear.
I think mine are situated in the best position to take the weight of the t/case hanging off to one side

The engine is an aussie spec factory unsmogged 3F in my FJ73 when it was getting a diesel 1HZ

The rear hook is the one that they make two version of. A weak one and a strong one.

It held mine for several hours. Toyota recommend lifting the engine and gearbox as one so they must have tested it hundreds of times. They would look pretty stupid if everyone was dropping engines and trannies following their instructions.
You could also put on a back up sling of rope under the engine.

The strong one has an extra triangulation in it. I'm pretty sure they are both open hooks.
 
both are open.. And I have bent a ton of them without any failing...


I would not worry about it.

Damn they are both open,its the diesel that get the closed eyes;)
 
I concur, I just bent my front one pulling a 2F but it didn't break. Hammered it back in shape and will use it again (hopefully not anytime soon)....

Here is my rear engine lift hook, bent and twisted. I wasn't even pulling the transmission and transfer with the engine. Sawed the top off the old one and drilled a hole in it to accept the clevis pin.
