83 Dash Control Plate on a 79

How hard is it to install a later model dash plate on an earlier (1979) model?

This guy:

Previous owner cut a 52mm gauge hole with a sawzall and I don’t need a gauge in this spot (I have a Holley dash). Also the hole is uneven

A lot more work than just welding up that hole. Looks like the whole dash is lower than prior years everywhere but under the glove box.

Getting just parts from the Middle East is almost impossible. That would be the market that would have the most non rusted LHD panels. If you did manage find the insert panel would probably buy a replacement dash.

Anyone else ever wonder why Toyota never did away the column shift cutout and turn signal cutout. The that turn signal switch ended 9/72. I can't find any listing for a column shift speed after that date either. Three speed didn't end until 10/82, but those were floor shift.

Here is a dash from a 3/82, cutouts are still there.

Looks familiar - mine had 3 in a row.
Might not be pretty, but it's better. Might even get some white top coat on it once I get the baby into nursery...
