My trade offer was more tongue and cheek but like you and others on here, the Mud community is much more truthful than gen pop.

Precisely why I would've preferred buying from a Mud member, if buying/negotiating sight unseen.

I'm hoping the lower mileage and "relatively" clean base were worth it. I bought to keep, so of it ain't right today, it will be in the future.

Five hours of driving and three hours of fondling, and continuing to uncover future "fixes". I'm prepared for more work than originally expected, at this point.

There's lots of little things to consider when inspecting, and I don't think it's possible to do without more experience than I could've gained by doing the way I just did.......after the fact.

My advice to the other new guys is to request a day long inspection time. If nothing else, it'll allow enough time to know what will be involved to build to expectations. Mine are lofty.

Will begin tearing down next weekend, I hope, if I can get a decent handle on the PM (already a call into Beno) Removing all the exterior components that won't be permanent, and gutting the interior in preparation for plugging the holes, removing sunroof, and lining the interior.

Going to be a lot of work. Any input is appreciated.

I agree with mot

It will rattle around some and it won't feel like your newer FJ in the braking or acceleration department, but it's a freaking sweet ride.

Clean out the fluids and do the fan clutch so you can tell me if it's worth it. :D

Front axles can have some seepage and be fine, open the little square pegs on each birf and check the level of grease and determine if it's soupy. Soupy would mean you should do a service sooner than later.

Leave the HG alone unless it's failing. Knowing you, get the test from Autozone and check. I prefer to live in denial about it.

Running 35s on the FJC so it feels like a Porsche in the acceleration department.

Going to order the hoses, fan clutch, possibly gears, and freshen all up. Start removing the flares and others. Hopefully, determine lift and install, then to OKC (I hope, price determining) for plugging and sunroof removal (it's coming out. Prevent a future issue, and lose 30lbs, or so).

Not sure of the order of things, and more consideration is being given than is necessary, but you know me.

One bonus to the minor body imperfections is I don't feel guilty chopping into it, so reason for lift before body work, in the event I "man up" and chop the fenders. Would like to avoid the rubbing issues I have on the FJC and gain full travel capabilities.

Going to be a project, which I embrace, but unlike what I'm familiar with.

That must be one ridiculously slow Porsche. :D

Do it! And buy an angle grinder to match your LX450 :hillbilly:

Not as long as you don't wear your own pair. :hillbilly:

Pics!

Planning to delete sunroof at the same time as roof rack, spoiler, flares and cladding.

Lining the roof white, doing what's possible to be done on the remaining white paint, and lining the sides, just unsure if it'll follow the flare pattern shown (Fireguy's) in a similar color

Or doing the whole side (sorry to whomever I'm not giving credit to) in tan like this.

You already know I'm crazy. I'm considering this when under the knife.

Hoping to strip the interior, apply deadener, weld it all up, line x, then go from there. Hoping to two piece a headliner and raising the front where the sunroof cavity was. replacing front windshield and gasket, gasket for rear window, and going to find the window sills ( bottom of window on side) to swap at the same time. Also, whatever the hell it takes to get leg room. I'm not a contortionist, and feel like one driving.

Have the first care package coming which includes the entire cooling system expendables and new brass radiator, fan clutch, PHH/FHH and distributor, wires, and a bunch of other expensive components this week.

Hoping to have gears and axle kits coming next week, along with ABS components and stainless lines. Get through all of that as quick as I can.
Working on Radflo's and coils now, considering wheel options, then figure out which flavor of KM2 will grace.

A long, ambitious list that continues to grow. Would've been cheaper to SAC the FJC.

As always, open for input.

Delancy, mind if I ask if there is a thread you got those last fender chopping pics from? Would like to see more. Never really thought chopping was for me, but that looks good!... for way down the line.

That's from Mark's (helocat here?) PP80. Thread had CM06 in title, so old. Will try to find a d link.

Here's the end result. 4" lift with 37s.
