Well, i finally get to use my rig and trailer for what i think they're very well suited for. A remote support vehicle.

Starting this monday i will head out into the Mojave desert to be a pack mule. I will provide firewood, fuel, water, and yes, of course.. beer. Also, if need be i will run into town(s) to attain parts for broke rigs or whatever else is needed.

I can't say at this time who this is for but there will be 9-10 rigs and 17-18 people im supporting. They each need to be able to take a solar shower if they want and i will supply them with all their drinking water for their hydration packs.

We can't do a basecamp type setup or else that would be too easy. My job is to meet a pre-selected GPS waypoint each day to start the fire so they can cook on the coals when they arrive each night. Im also responsible for any fuel they may need, water of course as i already discussed and whatever needs to be thrown on ice. I will have 2 coolers with ice and 2 freezer fridges with me. Also, i will be carrying 83 gallons of water, and about 65 gallons of fuel (15 of which in jerry cans).

Each morning it's my duty to make sure the fire is out when they leave and that all trash is packed out. Each vehicle will have a Trasharoo onboard.

Every afternoon, i run into town at pre-selected agreed upon locations for water refilling and firewood for the next night. Then i head for camp #2, 3 ,4 and so on. Each night is a new camp spread over the Mojave desert. The group will be traveling overland as will be taking most the easiest route with selected highways. After all, the entire point of the support crew is to get there first and actually get there! I'd like to follow their route but that wouldn't do them any good.

Should be a blast and im so stoked to be finally using my rig for what i think could be its very best use. I don't know of anyone else that can carry so much crap! It should be an epic test of weight and mass :D

Im leaving Monday the 20th and will return Friday the 24th. I will share whatever photos and additional info i can with you afterwards. Im hoping to do some sort of a trip report.

Anyways, figured i'd share.

Now that sounds really cool.. Share what you can and guessing we will see the rest in a magazine or a movie??

smells like a special operations desert training exercise...:censor:

Very cool! Can't wait for the pics and have a fun time Dave. Are you doing this solo?

No, i will have a good friend with me. He is a long time boy scout and an editor for a off road type magazine.

I'm with the goverment tell me!

Your avatar kind of sets of a hint as to whom im working with.

Can't wait to hear about this one.

If this is a Mil group, I hope these might be some folks who returned from deployment & need some serious RnR...but, if this is the 'new' SERE training, we're in deep :censor:.

Then again, if they all have some hard cases with Cheytacs, Barretts and big optics with some long throw projectiles...

I'm also looking forward to the declassified [STRIKE]mission[/STRIKE] trip report.
Hope you have a very enjoyable time & stay safe.

Everything is basically ready to rumble for next weeks support adventure. All i need to do come monday is connect the AT and toss my clothes in the LC. I'll spend this weekend with the misses, since this will be the longest time we've ever been apart since we met 6 years ago. Gonna feel weird leaving Yosh & Dixie behind. I know its only 5 days, but we're together 24/7 (we own a biz together). Yes, we haven't killed each other :D

Dave, did you get your over heating issue fixed on the Cruiser since your Labor Day trip?

I, along with Yotamasters think we did. Only time and temperature will tell.

Sounds like a good time and cant wait to see your trip report:cheers:.

:hhmm: :hhmm: maybe I could talk you into chasing for us on our next moto trip? We always seem to end up relying on our non-riding bud's who:
    • always end up getting lost- even with detailed maps and GPS
    • somehow manage to wreck our trucks on flat ground
    • think casinos -whore houses and bars are good rest stops
    • believe beer is better than water or gatorade for hydrating.
:meh:...............just a thought:D

Absolutely Tim. PM me back channel with details of your next ride. Oh and i dont waste my money on strippers or gambling.... i'd rather by more parts for my rig :D Lets put it this way, instead of going to lunch and hanging out with chicks in high school i was eating a sandwich in auto shop.

Too funny- thats sounds like me - I skipped the prom in High School cause I wanted to buy parts for my car and not
a dumb corsage. Metal shop and Auto shop were my favorite classes.

Have a safe journey:cheers:

so what's getting taken off the trailer and truck since your'e adding so much weight in fuel and water?

Nothing, the LC has always been able to carry that capacity. The two tanks under the rig for fuel are 50 gallons by themselves. The extra 15 isn't that much. It's the water that is the extreme. We just never need to carry that much.

On a side note, i'll be filling all the water in Lucerne so i dont need to carry that weight up the Cajon pass.

Once filled we are only traveling 20 miles to our first camp, second camp isn't much further. The entire route of camps is only 126 miles.

About to depart, catch you all at the end of the week!
