So I recently acquired a 80 series high pinion that I want to drop into my mini. I have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find an answer to. First being about my drive line. My rig is stock height (minus some larger shackles) and I wanted to get some input as to see if my driveline would have to be shortened. Also the HP diff tanked and the pinion snapped (why I got it free). The carrier seems to be ok minus some minor nicks and dings. Are stock mini truck carriers the same? Are they just as strong? Any input would be helpful.

P.S. I tried using the search feature. Also, before people ask me why I want to do this if I'm keeping my rig fairly stock and mild, it's because I scored a v6 diff with 4.56 gears. So since I have to re gear my front diff anyway I might as well do the high pinion. RIGHT???
Thanks!

No, not all stock mini-truck carriers are the same. The early 4-cylinder diffs are 2-pinion. Later V6 diffs are 4-pinion and stronger. The V6 diffs are a nice upgrade for us with 4-cylinder diffs.

The high pinion diffs are also 4-pinion with the strength of 6 cylinder diffs. Because they turn "backward" when installed in the front they are actually even stronger (relative to a low pinion in the same location). You can bolt the high-pinion diff into any 8" front or rear. High pinions diffs, because they are also reverse rotation, should not be installed in the rear, as tempting as that might be.

I'm not sure it's necessary to shorten the drivelines. Try it and see. I don't recall any issues when I installed mine.

No. I think. I know the gears are different. Also I believe the bearings are different. The high pinion is a V6 unit.
