You don't mess around do you? This is the fastest moving build thread I have read. Your motivation is contagious!

Nice! What's the backspacing and width of your rims? Thanks.

I'm posting this to help get you to a third page before you finish your build..

I might be interested in your old wheels but shipping might kill the deal if you're clear in Alaska.

I have a feeling this build will go on for years! Probably done all I will do (or close to it) until fall time since I will be gone for 4 months of it. But should have everything to attack with axles with 5.29s, ARB's, and possibly chromo's/longfields. Then I also need sliders, rack, etc... Dont think the build is just gonna end.

I am in Oregon. I just work in Alaska.

Back spacing is 4.25" and they are 17x9

That's still across the country and shipping would be a killer. :(

Did some plastic dipping yesterday (yeah I know people get tired of seeing people plastic dip all their chrome). So I will only give you guys one pic of it.
All the chrome pieces on the front and the mirrors

The big news of the day though was that I rented a block tester from O'Reily's and tested to see if my HG is leaking at all. At first it scared me pretty bad because the fluid turned yellow after a couple squeezes on the ball. However, it was just that I hadnt taken out enough anti-freeze and it sucked some of it up into the plunger and spoiled the sample. I drained it a bit further and did the test again for 2 more minutes. Liquid stayed completely blue! I was pretty happy to see it since I have no idea the service records on this truck from the past.
Also been trying to look at different oil leaks and where its all coming from. Guess I will start at the stop and work my way down. Looks like the distributor is leaking so I will start there.

Also I am pretty sure this is my PHH, correct? If so its looking pretty bad I would say. It is greenish and very scaly. The hose doesnt look like its in terrible shape, but the hard pipe looks bad. So its probably a good idea to get this done soon. Where is the best place to order the hose/kit from?

I was able to source some AC Dryer lines out of a '92. So I will be continuing the project of relocating the dryer to the battery box and getting the AC back up and running.

Truck looks SWEET - well done

I went with the Samco PHH. the smaller mechanic at my local shop had it replaced in about 35 min. you may need to replace more than just the PHH (the "pesky" part of which is underneath the intake manifold and basically impossible to see from above the engine)

What you took a photo of is not the PHH. It's on the bottom end of that metal pipe in the picture. Just buy a foot of gates green stripe hose and call it a day. No need for a "kit".

Looks nice. Was there any prep to the plasti dip and is it spray on?

Also curious as to how tall the truck is. Could you take a measurement to the top of the headlight?

Is there a Toyota type spring clamp that will work with the Green Stripe hose?

Not much. I used the Rustoleum brand. Made sure there was no flaking chrome and gave each piece a good wash down with soap to get the dirt off of it. Then just spray away. I did about 5 coats for each piece.

I will have to go measure and get back to you.

Went out on a little shake down run today. Nothing serious but had a great time and even found some snow (too much at one point). Took the family out with another buddy in his Taco and made it up to a nice mountain lake and had a picnic. First impressions are that I love the lift and the ride it provides. However, there are a few glaring things that I took away from this little jaunt. 1. The FZJ80 is heavy as S*&$! 2. 5.29's cant come soon enough. 3. ARB's cant come soon enough. 4. FZJ80's are really really heavy. We found a XJ Jeep that someone looked like they walked away from a few weeks ago when it got stuck in the snow. I went around it but went a little too far and my rear wheel went over an embankment. It swallowed the 37 like it wasnt even there. All in all it was a really fun little trip though. Didnt get any pics when I got stuck (I was shoveling). But here are a couple.

I had a scare today. I took the battery out to start fitting some new AC lines I got out of a '92 so I can move the dryer up to the battery compartment. I was just test fitting because the lines are now currently at the shop getting the fitting swapped on them. After putting the battery back in and firing the cruiser back up it would idle at 400 RMP or less and actually almost stall multiple times. Also it was super super sluggish when accelerating. I thought I had messed something up (me with my limited knowledge). But literally all I did was take the battery and trey out and fit some AC lines. Well MUD saved me again! Heard that the ECM has to relearn the idle after the battery has been unhooked, especially at higher elevations. We are at around 3500 ft here and it definitely was the case. It took some driving around at about 8 stop, turn the car off, then restart and now it idles fine at around 600-650 (dont know if this is fine but it is where it has idled since i got it). My question is; I have unhooked the battery before and never had this issue. So does the ECM just sometimes reset?

Any time I've unhooked the battery and reconnected it after a long period, it idles high for a while, not low. I'm near Denver, so 5,xxx feet.

You might want to clean your throttle body maybe. The idle speed motor should have kept it at least 650 I'd think.

It may have to do with how long the battery is disconnected and if the capacitors in the ECU discharged.

This is very weird as 2 out of the 4 times I have had the battery disconnected now since I have owned the vehicle the idle has been super low after hooking the battery back up. After driving it and turning it off and on multiple times the idle goes back to 600-650 with no issues after that. I will have to look into cleaning the throttle body but I dont see why that would suddenly fix itself after a little bit each time the battery gets hooked back up.

I installed the new AC lines I had made to relocate the dryer up into the battery trey. All fit pretty darn well. Will bring the vehicle in tomorrow to have them pull a vacuum on the system and see if there are any leaks. Fingers crossed I will have running AC by the end of tomorrow.
