As I was driving around this weekend in the pig, I was thinking maybe I should do a brake upgrade to better the stopping power as i've got a winch up front and a tire carrier in the rear with all sorts of camping gear stuffed inside.

Anyways, I've got the stock disk brake set up with a warn full floater in the back with the GM disk brake set up. I'm running BFG 33x10.50's on 15 by 8 wheels. I've done the 4runner big caliper set up in the fj40 on minitruck parts but don't want to do a full conversion or run wheel spacers.

So, what other toyota calipers would drop in and give me better stopping power? I guess I would also do the fj80 MC setup at sometime too.

Thanks for any advice, ty

the 89-91 calipers off the v6 4runner casting s12wb have 43mm pistons , and the 92-95 v6 4runner/t-100 calipers casting s13wb have 45mm pistons . either are really tight in 15 inch wheels . and need spacers . or grinding . the 80 mc is a 1 inch bore and pushes more vollume but not more pressure . the dual booser of a 94 non abs 4runner has more assist , but then can cook the ft pads on long down hills . pads in any caliper should be upgraded to EBC yellowstuff . . all i have learned after trying to stop my pig with 2000k more metal welded to every spot available

todays brake issues include a 71 fj55 with minitruck conversion front , eldorado rear discs orig booster and bradided lines , the peal is soft to the point of not stoping . everything has been checked twice . adjusting the ghetto ebrake on the rear helped some . the client had the kits put on a long time ago . i think i will start on this one with the 1" master

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll probably go with the same set up as my fj40 with the bigger '96 4runner calipers and a 1996 fj80 MC. I'll also probably do the wheel spacers too. oh well.

i think drum was 7/8 bore . but i took that off a long time ago . if you dont allready a dual diaphragm booster will give more assist

I'm gonna check my MC to see what size, and then look at how much room I have to clear the 3FE if I put in a bigger booster. I am guessing this booster is bigger than my '74 single booster, but smaller than the gigantic dual booster in my '78 40?

here is the 74 booster of the 69 in the shop right now download (12).webp
