Decided to sling some wire today (scary as I'm not the greatest MIG welder) and attempt to build the front bumper. First step was to cut and drill some 1/4" plate to bolt up to the frame horns. Then clamp and tack the square tube in place. I lucked out on the winch plate. It clears the saginaw box by a whopping 1/4 inch. Additionally, the winch misses the sector shaft adjuster by about a half inch.:clap:

Additionally, I had to do a little cutting on the mount for the hause. I tacked the nuts on the back side, and trimmed the 45's down to fit the 2 inch width of the tube.

So the big question is this:

Does it need a prerunner style tube attached, or should it be left bare? Help a brother out and tell me.:beer:

Greg is out on walkabout someplace, so I can't ask his opinion.

Second best::princess:

She said the naked bumper looked.... well... naked.

I bent a piece of 1.5" DOM and angled it out a little in a prerunner style. She said that it looked better

Pulled it off and stood it up straight. She liked that a little better yet.

Turned it around so that it angled back a little. She liked this the best.

I figure I need a place to give Greg a mounting spot for future off-road lighting, just in case.

Looks great:bounce:

I will miss this thread when you are truly done.

I do have one question: with the rear spring flip and one side of the rear axle at full compression will you have any issues with the rear tires hitting sheet metal? I have seen others relieve the sheet metal for this reason.

I am still finishing a new cross member for my rear shocks after my spring flip (I have an axillary fuel tank and did not want to get rid of it) and am concerned about the fender clearance.

BTW-very nice job on the anti wrap/traction bar.

Good question. When I cut the quarters out for the flares, I moved the wheel opening as far back as possible. I have not yet started the suspension cycling drill to see what happens, but that will need done in the coming weeks.

Finished the front bumper today. I'll drop it off for powder tomorrow when I head out to pick up the finished half doors at the paint shop. I have to start the search for a place to sew the soft door tops now. Does anyone have any advice? Boat cover places, auto upholstery?

Only because you didn't have to stop for tea and crumpets in your LR. :cheers: . You want to go out west this summer? Claire and I are going for three weeks while my employees run my company into the ground. But I think the trip will be worth it! :confused:

That's is one AWESOME bumper!! I love how it angles back at the ends.. just the right amount for it not to look weird.. simple and stout.. this thing is a masterpiece! Is it gonna be a mall cruiser or is this guy gonna use it? Either way.. HATS OFF to you and your skills and your creativity!:beer::beer::beer:
