Hi,

It's not a matter of adjusting the points. To adjust the VR you have to bend the adjusting arm under the black spring.

It's not an easy job but it's doable. The easy way out is to buy a new one.

If you want to do it yourself...... look at upper photo in this pic.
The pic is a 6 wire VR. You only have the part shown in the upper photo. I have to find a better photo for this.

The adjustment is done with a running engine and needs a steady hand.

Voltage Regulator replacement is ~25$ from Specter Offroad or Cruisercorps or rockauto.com

look at the connectors, though, to make sure it fits your truck

So, I want to thank you all for your help!!! I think the new VR did the trick. A very special thanks to Rudi and Claudia for sticking with me. Sorry it has taken so long to post, but I have been away for a while. I got the VR from CruiserCorp, so thank you for the referral, Claudia. Now, I guess I am on to the windshield wiper motor, the dash lights and the shackle lift! Cruise on!

I just want to say how pleased I am for finding this thread. I’ve searched for days of where the voltage regulator was placed (previous owner cut the wires after upgrading to internally regulated alternator and wrapped in electrical tape) and because of this thread, my joy has been restored.
