Hey everyone 👋

I’m planning a suspension + tire build on my 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 75 Series (leaf-spring truck, NOT an 80 series) and I want to make sure I do it right the first time.

Goal:

• Run 37×12.50R17 Maxxis Trepador Radials

• Daily-drivable with solid off-road capability

• Targeting ~3–5″ of total lift

Questions I’m looking for help on:

• Best suspension lift kits that actually fit a 75 Series (Dobinsons, OME, etc.)

• Real-world experience running 37s on a 75 — how much lift did you actually need?

• Thoughts on extended shackles (rear only?) and ideal length

• Wheel specs that worked for you (17″ wheels, width & offset)

• Any must-do supporting mods (bump stops, caster shims, driveline angles, etc.)

I’m not trying to overbuild or cheap out — just want a balanced, proven setup.

Appreciate any pics, part numbers, or advice from people who’ve actually run this setup

Hello,

If you intend to run 37 in. tires, it is wise to do an SOA conversion.

This is a 73 Series running 37s and SOA.

This is a close up of the front. There is another 70 Series running 31s on the right. Notice the difference in height.

I guess the gears are taller than the factory 4.11:1.

Paging @SchobTime. He has a built 75 that sounds similar to what you want, maybe even more extreme.
