Can someone help me out with where this little black clip goes? I'm using Steve Cramer's brackets with 1985 Monte Carlo calipers/pads.
Also, do you see any glaring issues so far? This is my first crack at vehicle restoration. So if this is a noob question, I'm guilty!

Your pads already have a clip riveted to it, so you won't use the loose 1. I think your caliper in the pic might be for the other side. Typically, the bleeder screw should be pointing up. Those brackets are strange, i never seen the caliper horizontally mounted. Or maybe the brackets are not mounted in the proper orientation. IDK

Never mind, I just noticed the pinion is pointing down, so the pic is deceiving.

Although I couldn't find an image I think I've figure it out. It is an anti rattle clip for the outside pad. I think the two curved fingers slide over the top edge of the backing plate. The flat pad will simply rest against the backing plate. The spring finger will then push against the arched upper edge of the caliper once slid in place. Friction just keeps things together.

This is my best guess, good luck.

Thanks for the info on the loose clip. I wasn't sure and didn't want to continue on if something was wrong. This site is priceless.

Not true, you need one clip (anti rattle clip) on each pad otherwise you end up with noise and parts that wear prematurely.

You have it assembled correctly. If the outer pad is loose, you can bend the tabs down a bit to snug it up.
