My current rig is the blue and white. It is a 72 with a 78 2F transplant. I have had it almost 2 years and have finally got it running pretty good. (it still has a slight oil leak). I went down to OKC to pick up the red and white 74 as a donor and I am telling you the body on this 74 is SOOOOO much better than my 72. Now I dont know which one to keep! Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are a lot of options and I am sure by reading this for the past few years, many of you may have had a similar problem!

I know I am not giving you a lot of info, I can tell you the 74 has PTO winch and AC that I assume is stock (although I could prolly never get it to work!). There is VERY little rust on 74 and my blue and white is rusted very badly along the rockers and behind the front wheels and rear corners.....

Thanks for the info in advance! Randy

That's how I felt when I picked up a donor vehicle too! haha. How are the floor pans of both vehicles? Does the 74 have front fenders included too? I'd say stick with the 72 since you've done more work on that and a body transplant is time consuming.

No rust no problems! If the body is rust free keep that one. You'll chase rust for ever if it's started already. I you have that rust free brush a good rust inhibiter on b-4 painting and you good for a long long time.

Floor boards in 74 are immpecable....there is no rust at all. Actually the floors are white and you can see the drain lug holes perfectly. I dont know much about the engine that is in it other than it obviously leaks. And it runs.

There are front fenders and they are in great shape too. No rust. I do have a new pair of rockers from IPOR that I got from jsalt and front fender patches for behind the wheels I got from South Boston FJ for the 72 though. I will try to snap more pics of the 74......It is a 12-73. That is a 74 right? That is what the title says......

Use the blue and white one for the donor pig and put the motor, fenders, etc...into the 74. Like htownfire said, you want to stay away from RUST....It may take time, but that's fun stuff......Keep them both and have two!!

Whats the grey paint along the drip rail / roof on the red one?
If its there to hide filler & major gutter rust then your question may well be answered..

The PO started taking paint off and it is exposed metal....yikes. It is in a shed now, but i will get that covered asap.

Let's see, you have a rust-free body with PTO winch and A/C, and it sounds like all the '72 really has going for it is the '78 2F...

It would be pretty easy to drop that 2F into your '74 body.

Better yet, paint your '74 body while the '72 still runs, and then swap over the engine.

:hhmm:its a tough decision.......love the 74s 1 1/2F engine......has a different torque feel to it; hard to describe; just have to run one beside the other to get the feel; would chase the leaks on the 74 and use the 72 as a DD wile prettying up the 74....just my 0.02....congrats; now if you decide to get rid of the PTO cause its taking up too much room?:D

PTO and AC pics

Here is a picture (not a very good one) of the winch and the bumper it sits on now. And the end of the PTO shaft. Like I said, the shear pin is broken so I know I will need to get one of those. I dont know much about the PTO. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

The AC says YORK on it so I dont know much about that either. I have spent a small amount of time trying to search for some info on the stuff, but not too much.

I know I have a lot of questions and will be asking them soon.

Not sure if it is a 1.5 F or 1F.......

I am not really sure my 74 has a 1.5 F.... I am attaching some pictures and it really doesnt look anything like my current 2F. I ran the serial number of the engine on the SOR website and it looks like it is a July or August 1973 engine. What month did they start making the transition to the 2F......I am trying to figue out what I have so I can start ordering parts for it! Mainly gaskets......

I am afraid that it is just an F engine. Not what I want to hear....but at least I will know exaclty what I have.
