Has anyone ever replaced the two seals on the bottom of the windshield for the defrost openings? Mine were crusted and I removed them, not realizing I couldn’t find a single part or reference to them on the internet.

I do have the skills to design and 3D print parts. So I may make them out of TPU. We really need some kind of 3D printed parts (plastic and gaskets) collection thread :)

With parts becoming harder and harder to come by, a lot of these little odds and ends could easily be printed.

I was thinking that they all came with a one piece rubber seal that went all the way across the top of cowl. It has oval cut outs for the defrost.
This on a North American market FJ40?

This would be a great thing. The possibilities are endless as a guy just starting a full frame off and having friends very into 3d printing. My mind has been making notes as I take things apart. Hinge gaskets, dash pads, control knobs. Could go on for days. We printed an entire custom center console at work the other day it’s a new world of options.

I'm not sure if they come with the one from SOR, but there are gaskets that go in the openings on the actual window frame, which are not show in any diagrams. Since that #9 gasket is $200! I purchased the custom after market one from Cruiser Corps. I am printing a part I designed this morning, will post pictures later.

If you're referring to the pieces in the attached pic, I believe it was a part of the rubber spacer. You can see what time and heat have done to those on my Jan. '72. In seeing pics of the replacement spacers available on line, I don't know how you could roll this thing up as shown with that hard plastic piece as a part of this spacer.

YES! That is the piece, that part is seemingly impossible to find, and mine is in 100 pieces now as it only came of bit by bit.

I don't know if you would have any fitment issues with your design, but the long runs both have different widths and it appears yours are the both the same.

Thanks, yea I noticed that in your photo and when I test fit it onto the window. The side closest to the glass is a bit narrower than the 10mm flange. I am going to adjust that, but I don't have dimensions. I might be able to dig some scraps out of my shop vac.

Could you possibly tell me the short side width? it looks to be around 7mm. I really wish I had one of those :)

You have a good eyes. I'm reading right at 6 mm.

They’re still readily available new from Toyota, I have several in stock here and I sell them for less then $200 🤷 it’s one of the only parts that is the same across all years of 40 series as far as I am aware.

You would know better than I, is there in fact a separate piece attached to the window frame openings? See the orange part I made. It seems to me that part was really well attached to the frame and not part of the "window cushion". It didn't tear off or anything, it was connected to the window frame that tilted down and hard to remove.

New part, updated dimensions and improved fitment. I’ll print this in TPU next week when I get a new roll.

That looks great and a job well done. As I looked at the microfiche p/n's for the spacer I wondered if the p/n change in 04/72 was due to the elimination of this piece of the spacer "assembly". However as you see on the microfiche the p/n for early trucks was eventually superceded to the new p/n available today. It could be Toyota dropped our piece because maybe it really wasn't necessary.
