EDIT: Reduced price to $7,995 after looking at local market. Read below for trade options.
EDIT: This is for sale. I was hesitating before, but with the new baby on the way we'd rather have money for some remodeling.
The Good:
- '71 FJ40
- BRAND NEW 35x13.5 Toyo M/T's on Allied Blackies - (Over $1600)
- SOA using OEM Springs and Rancho Shocks.
- Turned knuckles.
- SBC 350 with approx 10k-20k on it.
- Turbo 350 tranny mated to Toyota OEM Tcase (lever / push button style).
- Power steering.
- Brush guard.
- Fogs.
- Warn 9000 LB winch (negotiable).
- CB.
- Stereo (not high quality, but better than nothing).
- Full hard top.
- Spare tire carrier.
- Dual jerry can holders.
- Removable flat towing bar.
- Custom rear rack that cal hold extra cans, coolers, etc...
- Was restored 10ish years ago. The owner that did the restoration did a dang good job on paint. The only rust I could find was under the gas tank which has since been cut out, patched, and Rust Bulletproofed. NO rust on floorboards, rear sill, door bottoms, etc. No evidence of bondo anywhere.
- Drum brakes are adjusted and she stops extremely well, no pulls or pumping.
- Tracks EXTREMELY well, no steering slop or wandering.
- Just did a full tune up.
- 4WD works perfect.
- Either a posi or locker in the rear, haven't opened it up to check.
The Bad:
- Standard SBC oil leaks. Nothing major.
- Has an electric fan, during hot summer days she'll run at 220-230 @ 55mph. I'd probably put a manual fan back in or get a better shroud. It's never overheated doing minor crawling, just something I'd keep an eye on if I were to keep it.
- The heat riser spring is shot so you get a small exhaust leak. Been planning on just getting a blank or cutting the flap out and welding the hole.
- Mechanical choke, so she starts a little rough when it drops below 30.
- Heater only works on high or off.
- I have a manual valve to adjust heater temp, have to pop the hood to adjust (been meaning to attach the original choke cable).
- Tcase was recently rebuilt and has a whine to it at certain speeds. Had the shop tear it apart and it looked fine. I have a feeling that's just what these sound like.
- Paint isn't 100% perfect, slight chipping near windshield, and a little PNW pin striping.
- Driver side window crank stripped out.
Not trying to scare you away, I just appreciate full disclosure when I'm looking at buying something. I'll be as up front and honest about it as I can, just ask. Overall this is one of the nicest 40's I've seen. It's NOT an immaculate 100%, every little nut and bolt returned to factory spec 40, but it is VERY solid, no rust, and has been extremely reliable. I get compliments on it all the time on it being "The nicest one of them I've ever seen'".
I also have a brand new full high steer setup from OTT as well as a complete mini front axle with new calipers, pads, ss lines. Just needs the rotors turned and TRE's and you can slap it on for front disc brakes.
That's the gist of it. I've linked a bunch of pictures below, you can also use the link in my sig line to see everything. I've tried to include closeups of the current steering setup, drive line angles, tcase adapter, etc...
I'm thinking $7,995 OBO for the whole package. Take out the mini axle ($300), high steer ($300), and winch ($500), or even wheels tires we could negotiate. Owned free and clear so title is in hand. I'm really not desperate to sell at this point so PLEASE no ridiculous low balling. I might be willing to take part trade for 'black guns', .223 or .308 ammo, Remm 870, tac shotgun, or if you're a bonded contractor in the Spokane / North Idaho area we could trade some work on my house or cabin.
Located just outside of Spokane, WA.
Thanks!
Shane
