well, did some more work :D finally.
trying to figure out the fuelcell setup.
cut a hole in the floor and am making a holder for the tank.
fuelcell1.jpg

looking at this its a little low, as if the diff moves up it can hit the tank. not that it will go that high, but i think i might mount it a few inches higher in the back of the 40.

ok, fuel tank is on hold till i get the tubing and die in. going to make the holder from 1" tubing :D
but did work on some rear shackle mounts. my only issue is that i dont know if i should cap them or not. i like to leave them open so i can plug weld them also.
i just took some 2.5" square tubing that was 5" long. drilled a hole then cut the angles.

a pic with the insert in. these are just some 2" autofab bushings.
rearshackle1.jpg

i will fully weld the outside and inside later on this week. then mount it under th frame on the rear. should work very well :D
rearshackle2.jpg

Got the tubing in finally, did some work on the cradle that will hold the fuelcell. the way i made it was the main piece then 4 side pcs that are just sliped on and will be welded after inal fit. i sleaved the 1" with some 1.25" to give it some more strenght at the ends.

i even fish mouthed the sleaves to give more welding area. i will still need to plate the bottom ti give full suport to the fuel cell.

Looks good  I like the Orange tank and am glad to see you're back in business :wrench:

The tank is red, my iphone takes s***ty pics :D
well got some work done today, not much. but some :D
i was having issues with the shaclels, so i redid the mounts to be under the frame, that way i dont have any issues.
i needed to make sure they were aligned, so i uses a piece of tubing.

shackle angle is looking good. i only tacked the hangers on as i will be still putting on more weight on teh back. tired of cutting full beads off LOL

after that i mocked up the fuel cell holder. its just clamped in place for now.

IMG_0119.JPG

sorry for the blurry pic
back side, ready to weld.
IMG_0121.JPG

next up was making a plate for the for the frame. i needed something to hold the fuel cell fully. i was just going to leave it solid, but then i had this great (STUPID) idea to drill and dimple it.
so a hour later i had it all laid out where all the holes should go and started drilling :D
IMG_0122.JPG

so like an hour later after drilling 80 some 1" holes i was done. i really need to invest in a 1" unibit. as the 1" hole saw really showed me how much runout my damn drill press had LOL
here it is in its final resting place.
IMG_0123.JPG

now onto the press. there went another hour LOL, and damn my arms were tired.

your skilled dude, cant wait for more, this is an awesome build

The concept is great to lighten thing us, get the overdrive, lighter and more efficient motor, power steering, etc. etc. What I don't understand is why you had to shorten the frame and lengthen the body. Do you think it is possible do do this without the body lengthening? How about on a 55? I had the same idea about doing this to a 40 or a custom 55. Thanx. Great work.

well, the chassis was a 84 xcab so it was a little long for the body. so i make it a little shorter, but i also wanted a little longer fj40 so i made that longer LOL. anything is posable, but i just like the idea of having a longer fj40

did a little more work today, i installed my Allpro xmember.
the main piece.
IMG_5742.JPG

tiged up the bushing tubes.
IMG_5741.JPG

welded up the brackets on the frame. i ran out of gas on the tig so had to pick up the mig. man, feel like i forgot how to use the damn thing LOL
IMG_5743.JPG

i couldnt seem to get all the holds aligned up, not sure why. i think i was having issues :D
but i got like 6 of them bolted up.
IMG_5744.JPG

all painted up.
IMG_5746.JPG

and all installed. i got the ap one with the parking brake brackets so i could add those later on if i wanted to.

thats a good question I forgot about and got excited when i saw it had been updated thanks for getting my hopes up. I f I recall, the shop he was in was getting sold or he was losing his job or something, maybe it went awol! Anybody know?

lol, back working on it. lets recap.
lost job, sold 80% of my shop stuff, moved down to San Diego, Bought a house (well wife mainly did that lol) finally got a good job so now back to working on it.

well, started working on it a little today. going to try to get the engine started up this weekend. made a bracket for the MSD ignition. going to be mounted up under the dash.
will get pics of that once i get power to the damn carport
ignmodual.jpg

got the bracket welded in.
the MSD ignition is mounted on rubber isolators to keep it from getting vibrated to death. i also need to mount the MSD voltage reg too.
hoping i can mount dual batterys under the dash. have a dual bracket coming.
