Hi
In the process of kitting out my Cruiser for some adventures. Iceland's F-roads next summer is the plan.
I try to hunt down some parts I want to replace or carry as a spare.
Now it is about the FUSIBLE LINK for my 1985 BJ73 3B 24Volts.
Several options are listed in the parts catalog...
Can anyone confirm it would be 9098208232 BJ7#,LJ7#..LX,STD,VX BATTERY,BATTERY. ?
(which of course is discontinued).

This is what it looks like:
IMG-20251025-WA0008.webp

The diameter of the green plug is about 19mm.
It is not 82627-60020. That plug is smaller diameter.

Anybody an idea what might fit here? Any chance to find this, or do I need to modify the harness and get rid of that plug?
Thanks for help
Cheers Ralf

Hello,

Yes, it is.

You can either use 1HZ fusible links or a reproduction part. You can get the former from Toyota. The latter is available from 'Mud vendors.

90982-08232 has been reproduced by Toyota out of Japan as part of the Heritage Parts program-- if you are interested in the correct OEM part.

Ah, a picture in that link ...
Well, 90982-08232 might be the period correct part, but that's not what is installed in my rig: 90982-08232, as per the link, has a square plug. Mine is round, and it's bigger (~19mm) than the round plugs of more modern models (12mm).
What the ha... is it what is on my truck? It's a 3B. J4 harness, probably?
Please check the image in my post. Ever saw this type of plug anywhere?
Thanks for help Best regards Ralf

Figured it: It's 90982-08233 (1984-85).
This part is reproduced by Fusible LINK Links 100% OEM TOYOTA Parts NON-USA and CANADA Spec. BJ70 BJ73 HJ75 BJ75 LJ70 11/84 - 12/89 Part # 90982-08233 - VintageTEqParts.com - https://vintageteqparts.com/en-ca/products/bj70-lj70-lj71-bj75-bj73-bj74-70-series-new-fusible-link-links-100-oem-toyota-parts-non-usa-and-canada-spec-part-90982-08232-copy
They have a pic of an old original part on their side, which equals mine.
$$$ and apparently don't ship to Europe.
Well, at least I know whst I need to look for now.
Thank you everybody.
Cheers Ralf

That connector is no longer in production. The FJ60 and 62 used a similar connector in the states. But they are NLA and increasingly difficult to find used.

How many circuits are inside that connector? Are they the same size?

You might find it easier to convert it over to a link that is still available and buy a couple spares or make your own with Deutsch or metripack connectors.

Two contacts in it, two fusible links resp wires going in / out. Appear to be same size.
I'm afraid you are right: If I want a setup that I can carry as a spare and replace, in case it blows (which is kind of the whole idea in this thing), I need to modify this. Need to think what I can come up with...
Best regards Ralf

I modified the factory setup on mine.
I made 3 new identical replacements so I’d have spares.

Can you tell if the terminals are .250" (same as a standard parts store crimp-on spade terminal) or .305/.312 (noticeably wider than a parts store terminal)?

If so you could try a Yazaki DS-250 (Connector Sealed DS 250 – Eastern Beaver Inc - https://www.easternbeaver.com/connector-sealed-ds-250/) or a Sumitomo 305 (305 Waterproof Connector - Corsa Technic - https://www.corsa-technic.com/category.php?category_id=448) and make your own OEM-ish replacements with fusible link wire

If the housings won't fit together (you might need to encourage them with a file or a dremel) then you might change the connector on the engine harness. Both the DS250 or 305 above have the locking lance / aka tang on the terminal itself. If your green connectors are also terminal lance, you could pick the terminals free and put them into a new housing.

Then your custom recreation links would fit.

If that didn't work then you'd crimp new metal terminals onto the factory wires, insert them into the 250 or 305 connectors above, and pop them into your new homemade fusible links. Then you'd be off to the races with links that look stock but aren't. They cant go unavailable if you make them yourself.

If you don't want to make your own, you could convert to a currently supported Toyota link, like the 1hz 3-circuit link (link 82627-60020 + junction block 82670-90K01) or the hdj81 2-circuit link (link 90982-08265 + junction block). Just cut off the green connectors (and give them to someone like toyotamatt or coolerman), crimp on some ring terminals, and use the 70/80-series junction black to connect to the fusible link.

Yes, that's what I would likely do.
I have 82627-60020 already in hand.
Thanks for sharing the junction block part-#.

** I would however also need the female (socket) side for that one round connector to go on the harness.
Anybody an idea where to get this? **

Cutting it off the fusible link assembly and replace it with anything else wouldn't be ideal:
The fusible link wire goes about 3.5cm (50% of the total length) into the connector (which is glued, so no way to take it apart). Cutting it would significantly change the fusing characteristics.
Thanks Ralf

As Treading Light wrote above I often look on the Eastern Beaver website to find the right connector from photos.
Corsa Technic has also been good to me.

Your green connector is no longer available.

1) With some modification you might make the DS250 or 305 I linked above fit.

2) find a used connector from an 80s-era 60 or 70-series

3) depin your green connector and put on a new ds250/305 in its place

4) cut off the old connector and crimp new terminals to convert to a DS250/395

In any case you'd be making an adapter to the 1hz link.

You can buy the mating connector for the 1hz link at corsa technic if you need that one also.

Thank you very much. I think I found the connectors I need at corsa technic.
The old green one appears to be 305 2-way,
The newer 1Hz appears to be 305 1-way.
Dimensions match.
Will get some ordered and start fabricating something.
Cheers Ralf
