If I had the spare coin right now, I would easily spend over 10K for that sweet 40.:frown: Since you're asking for price, I would rather spend 15-20K on this 40, than what people are asking for fully restored 40s...but maybe that might be just me, and the fact that I live in the north east, and am a purist :meh:

As for the other comments I've read in this thread...I would expect the tools, manuals, and anything else that came with the rig, just to keep it all together...only because I'd want this rig due to its sweet original condition.

Speaking of which...I would not touch this rig (other than that back bumper) and preserve it AS IS...no new paint job, no 4" lift, no nothing other than what you see there, and just keep safe to drive, and like she sits till I can longer drive it.

That is a very nice 40...very cool of you for helping the guy out

the tool kit and other stuff would bring more sold separetly :meh:

If they get sold separetly I know who will be buying them;) This set is complete but a little surface rust on a few of the tools since they been sitting under the seat since new. I told him I would buy the tool last summer when I saw the cruiser but told him I thought it would be worth more with the cruiser. His son told him had the tool kit from his first cruiser somewhere. I got lucky and he was able to find them.

As for that back bumper while I was there we put two like new bumperettes and the OEM original shorter step in the back just for the reason if a new owner wanted to go back to stock. But he doesn't remember what happened to the two reflectors for the back cross member. Funny he had two and a half set of bumperettes and they were all beige. I know he had a older one first and his brother also had no but why they were all beige.:meh: Being that the other rear steps I got and this one were in like brand new shape I assume the backs were converted to angle iron when new. The picture I took of the front bumper didn't come out but he installed a very heavy piece of metal strap beind the bumper to keep it from bending. Looks stock but very beefy. On the passenger's side you can see where it folded over on the edge from hitting something but not a mark where the backup strap is. I know most rock crawler like shorter bumpers but I also know talking with the guy who makes the 4+ products for Man-A-Free certain states require a front bumper to be a certain length to be registered.

I would gladly trade a bumper in good shape for the one off of this one just to help the sale:rolleyes:

A cruiser is only worth what a buyer is willing pay and the seller is willing to take for it. Check the book value on it and go from there. The engine swap will probably reduce the value for a collector or someone who wants all original but most people know nothing about them. I have seen 40's in like condition listed for $17,000.00 and more but they are still listed.

Thanks for your input. He has it listed on CL last summer for 19K. Mainly because someone told him it was worth that much. Six years ago on Ebay maybe. This is around a 10K truck in todays market. The engine swap probably hurt the valve but not as much as on a earlier cruiser where the engine serial # is on the VIN. You could find a F145 and put it in as and as long as the production is a little early then the production date of the cruiser there is really no way to prove or disprove if it was a original engine to the vehicle. The main reason I'm not worrried about restoring my FJ45 to original is the 2F under the hood that doesn't match the serial # on the VIN plate.

I did see it again this last weekend and took some more pictures. The seats have been recovered and a new head liner added. But it is a truely rust free cruiser. I got some of the old Toyota manuals that show Toyota sold a carpet kit for the FJ40 series. The manuals are dated mid sixties so not sure if this one has one of those kit or not but is does have carpeting in it. Not glued down just laying on the floor. Looked under the carpet and it rust free. Really just need to start a for sale thread.

Bump this up to see what the opinion of this cruiser's value is a little over six years later? Seeing the current threads on value just curious. I started a for sale thread and had limited interest at $10K For Sale - One owner 70 FJ40 I ended buying it myself. Only thing I've done to it are fix little things and change the back so it has original bumperettes, reflectors and the original rear step.

Hilarious reading all those posts from 6 years ago of people saying $6-8k...these things have completely shot up in value. The only rust free original (non restored) cruisers I've personally seen like this are in the $20k range. I think $17-18k would be a great deal on it based on current values.

No idea on value other than its worth what someone is willing to pay.

On a side note...Is the 45 next to it for sale?

Thx!

Wow that’s a nice 40. It looks beige, what color is?

Think in 70 it was called Coronado Beige. Would have to do some research. The cruiser next to is a 76 which is Dune Beige. After I put 68 on it's side over forty years ago I replaced the top with one off a 73 that was beige. Been repainted but compared the inside of the two piece door header to both. All three were a different shade. The owner of the 70 also some items off his and his dad's 63 FJ40 FHTs. Had the bumperettes that were removed when new. Those were painted to match the body. Two different shades of beige on those and neither matched the later beiges.

 I've lost track of the number of times been asked that question. Bought it back in 96 and even then had to travel from AZ to Northern California to get one. Prices were a little lower back then. Been collecting parts for it since. Hopefully start a frame off next year. Won't be original but everything will be off Land Cruisers.

I was reading the first pages of this without looking at the dates. I was just about to ask where the hell people were seeing trucks like this for $6K. I was starting to feel bad paying $4K for mine. :)

Bumping up this old tread in hopes of getting a better idea of it's current value. I took a bunch of pictures to get a agreed value insurance policy. These were taken summer 2012. Cruiser been garaged since then

Looks like parts of that floor have been repainted.

What part are talking about? Not sure he may have painted over paint that peeled from brake fluid damaged. The original owner sprayed some small sections of the frame with fresh black. He also painted the inside of the front fenders with what looks like beige out of a spray can. That was for paint chips not for damage or rust repair. Fenders have little bumps from stones thrown out of tire treads.

You don't remember this 40 Jack? I towed it down to the valley for Copper State Cruisers first relic run. We caravaned over to Gold Canyon.

No, i dont remember the details of that 40. I remember you driving it for that run. Weren't the tires really old?

The front floor where the plugs are painted white. The inside tool box plug is not painted and still black.

I have no idea of the fair market value but it is an absolutely gorgeous original truck.
