We're just wrapping up some last minute details and we know some of you are getting ready to drive across the country so we wanted to say "safe travels" and please take your time getting here. Silverton and HIH are not going anywhere. If you run into issues along the way, there are plenty of us staying in Silverton after the event and can take you on any trails that you missed. Getting here late is better than pushing your drive time and not getting here at all.

THURSDAY:

I will be in camp by Wednesday morning. Thursday looks to be perfect weather. We'll be playing Frisbee, ladder ball, corn hole and generally setting up camp and having fun. We'll also be looking for some help in getting things in order. There are even a few runs being planned for the early arrivers. We will have what loosely resembles a registration table. There are a lot of packets to sort through and build and we could use a few volunteers to help keep that in order. The Silverton Chamber of Commerce will be stopping by to meet folks and give out some great things as well. The fire department, Silverton Search and Rescue and sheriff will also pass through and say hello. These are the folks that will put their lives on the line to rescue any of us, please thank them for the sacrifices they're willing to make. We will be working closely with them in the years to come to ensure this event remains the premier event for the Town of Silverton.

We are extremely excited about our future location and although its hard to believe, we have already started working on HIH7! Wait until you see where we will be next year and beyond. We'll try to have the trail leaders take you by the location so everyone can see it. This move to Silverton has been amazing and they are beyond thrilled to have us. Chris and I have literally come out of our own pockets this year to ensure that we solidify ourselves as the most important event in town. Thank you for your support and willingness to place your family vacation in our hands.

Will post some updates when more signal is available! We have been here in Yellowstone and will stay until Sunday.
@paflytyer we will be in Ouray Wednesday and Silverton on thursday so we can help.

This may be next on my list. The sag I am experiencing pulling my trailer is getting old. How long did it take you?

2 hours max. Probably closer to 1. Had help though.

I should be able to help with some secretarial work.

I might have to entice you to help me do this when we get back - ice cold beer and some smoked ribs? :hmm:

We will try to be there on Wednesday as well and hope to be able to help. 1400 miles doesn't sound too scary in a 17 year old truck with plenty of rust underneath
Wish us luck !!

Hey guys, as the excitement builds, we have yet another generous sponsor on board for HIH6. @NLXTACY is a long time fixture on the MUD board and has been developing innovative products for LC guys for quite a bit of that time. He has just boxed up and sent out some sweet stuff that some lucky winners will be taking home. Check him out on MUD and here: Wits' End, Solutions for Problems You Didn't Know You Had. Thanks Joey, appreciate it.

Thanks for the words. I know I don't have a bunch of 100 Series specific goodness but still IS in the works ;)

The fire service roads and limited trails I have in my area are very mild. My 4 year old son likes to get out of his seat and sit on the center console, or in my lap to help drive, while we are "off road". Will this be safe on any of the trails?

I wouldn't ever consider this as acceptable for areas like the steps on black bear, based solely on the videos and pictures I've seen.

@ihadmail I did my first proto and didn't like how it came out. I just need to find some time to make the changes needed and get it rolling.

If I ever get around to having more time than money I will eventually put my welder to use and fab one up. Chances are you'll most certainly beat me to it.

I don't care about a storage box in that area, just a simple extinguisher mount.

Taking the safety aspect out of the equation, many of the trails that we will be on (Black Bear included) are actually maintained county roads. All laws that apply on the highway would apply there as well. They are patrolled by the sheriff and the USFS.

I allowed my children to sit in my lap and steer on Last Dollar Road. Even with as many times as I've run these trails, I would be uncomfortable with one of my kids on the center console for many of our routes. A bump could bounce him into the wheel or into your lap and a quick jerk of the steering wheel could be disastrous.

I have seen VERY seasoned offroad drivers white knuckle the steering wheel on some of these trails. Nothing that we'll do is difficult in terms obstacles, it's all about being comfortable with your wheels at the edge. You'll want to minimize distractions.

Honestly, nothing that we'll do is that bad. Black Bear included. Many folks say that after they reach the bottom they realize it wasn't so bad. The hype is way bigger than the trail itself.
