Here's my project.
I purchased it in LA from a military guy. He claimed it came from Arizona. I think he's telling the truth due to lack of rust and some comical stickers of cactus and a road runner on the body.
With the exception of the top missing, it is pretty much completely original. Everything works from the heater to the windshield wipers. I have the original doors and rear seats, but want to put some work into them before reinstalling them.
I would have gotten rid of the roll bar long ago, but it keeps the bikini top on. The top keeps the sun off my head, which is important because I'm in the desert and I don't have all my hair.
I spent all my money purchasing it. I have plenty of elbow grease, but it could be awhile before I do anything serious to it (those Ehsan soft tops look really good).
I've spent alot of time reading the faq pages and reading posting/build threads.
I never imagined that a forum could be so dedicated to a vehicle that hasn't been manufactured for years - yet is so incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of it !!
I have alot of reading and work to do before I can contribute anything. I sure appreciate the information available on this site.

Appreciate the pics. Glad you're aboard!!!

First business is to get a top for it.
There are alot of cool wheels and lifts out there, but it is hard to think of parting with original wheels and hub caps.
I don't think the engine has ever been pulled. After 42 years, I think I really need to start from the ground up and rebuild as I go. With a paint job at the end.
Due to lack of funds, I really don't have to make any decisions yet.

You'll want to dump the ball and claw axles for four wheel discs, and add power steering. Everything else can wait....

Yep make it reliable rig first, Get It to start and stop well first then go from there send me PM If you need some help... Joe

Just enjoy it as is. Make sure it's all working safely as it should, brakes, steering, tires...etc, and I bet it'll last another 40 years, so really no need to think you'd have to change anything unless it's broken.

Ah...wait a minute, oh yeah what am I saying, change those wheels, and I'll help you get rid of those hideous hubcaps :hillbilly:

very nice rig.

as previously stated, just enjoy it while you learn from it.

any pictures of the rear of the tub? looks as though you may have a soft top model there. someone pulled the eye bolt out of the top-front of your door jam. the eye bolt was there on soft top models to connect a safety strap from the front of the door to the rear of the door. hinges say otherwise though?

Probably want to get a top brace for the battery hold down before you go to far....Should be able to find something generic at the auto parts store that would work better than nothing...

Batteries tipping over can create all sorts of drama....

I'm very sure it wasn't an original soft top. It is just missing the hard top.
With no air conditioner, I don't like the idea of having a hard top.
Hard top in desert = oven.
I really like the looks of those soft tops.

Damn, you have a really good eye for detail.
I had the battery brace off in that pic.
I was trying to figure out if the one I have is original or not.
