Alas, our beloved and pampered 1980 BJ40 is no longer. I made the mistake not of whamming him head on, but swerved to try to miss a grizzly at just about the halfway point of the Cassiar Hwy in northern BC. Big mistake: road surface ends instantly - no fog line or margin, but instead drops right into a deep ditch. Oof. Neither Cruiser nor my magnificent gooseneck trailer was insured; still negotiating about the F-350. No humans were injured, thank goodness.

Once you’ve recovered from those pix, our ‘88 FJ62 still is in magnificent condition. Here’s a blowup of how we protect the forward lights and radiator from what our North Country roads throw at us. That first is a blowup showing the headlight: a hinged grill w/small-mesh screen, with a “keyed” screw tightener as a latch. The others show the bigger picture. Of course these don’t protect the windshield at all; that has been dinged a bit over the decades but still pretty good.

Honk if you like our license plate! It’s genuine, even though Alaska DMV no longer issues two plates. Fortunately, we’ve had this for ages.

Fawk! That sucks. How big was the old bruin? Glad to hear everyone is ok

@Alaska Ranger - My insurance (state Farm) covers trailers and what they are towing as long as they are attached to an insured vehicle. Surprised (and thankful I guess) that isn't a standard thing? Glad your Ok.

I’ve been with USAA for four decades, but this is the first crash I’ve ever had. I never even have priced trailer insurance. In a few seconds, that decision came back to bite worse than any grizzly.

Really diggin’ the ‘retro deco’ dome light in your hippy pad.
Just seeing this now. I installed the same one in the rear position as well. Stainless housing and a glass lens with 24 LED lights in each. No more flickering dim bulb. Bright like the sun.

Very nice interior lighting upgrade…mind sharing the Mfg.’s or suppliers Name & Address? Could it also fit above the rear cargo hatch?
