Yes, been there about 3 years ago as a part of one trip. Karjalian naming is very interesting. My favorite is Loukhi, small town in north karjalia. Translates as a peoper name one of the forest spirits. Like russian Baba Yaga. Been there mamy many times at early 2000s with my whitewater team.

if you take a look at fairly recent history, 80 yrs ago, you'll see the that karjala was part of finland. hence the finnish place names.

I know. Not all of the republic but most parts. And not only finnish but different Finno-Ugric ethnic groups like lopari on kola.
I mean that naming history in this region are more deeper than 80yrs.

Some interesting info about northen russian territory. Some russian settelments on kola peninsula and Arkhangelsk region have more than 600 yrs. of history. Ethnic group self-name is Pomors. And geonaming around this settelments are very interesting as well. Thay left southern lands and run away to north from war, goverment and desiase. Thay never know slavery, most of them are old beliavers ortodox.

I recently bought a 69 FJ40… It’s been a fun two years. Time to move on to the next canvas.

If all works out, it will be going to a local buyer and will be in good hands… BaT has been all over the map recently - and trust me i’ve been tossing and turning trying to decide if I should post it online.

But, I am confident in the potential local buyer. It would be pretty great to see a piece of my “artwork” floating around town.

…hopefully plenty of more to come!
