Builds 60 guy does a 100 series LC...

So on the side over the last month or so I have been working with @Fourrunner to help develop a "Big Three" style cable upgrade kit for our trucks. I had one of his kits in BeBe, my 60 series, and it was great. So naturally when I saw another user talking about doing this himself and realized that no one really was offering one, I tagged him to see what his interest level was, seeing as he doesn't own a 100 series.

After lots of emails back and forth, plenty of pictures and measuring, I received one of his prototype kits last week for just the big three. This is an upgrade for the following lines; Negative terminal to fender (shorty cable), Firewall to back of engine block (where heater T's are), and Inner Fender Apron to Engine Hook (DS).
Like his other kits, cables are high quality, decently flexible to allow for movement, nicely oversized, well crimped and sealed at the ends, and the lugs fit perfectly.

He is working on adding other cables to the group (Big Three Plus and Big Three Plus Plus) but those are still in development due to their locations. He will also be adding Slee style post extensions with mil-spec terminals to the Big Three Plus kit.

Only possible gripe I found was that the engine hook to fender apron cable is thick enough that it makes slight contact with the plastic engine cover/shroud. First world problems really as it barely contacts it, at this point I have not heard any rubbing or anything in the engine bay when the engine is running. If nothing else I will attempt to reposition the cable or clearance the shroud by filing off some of the plastic there. Really many of the trucks that I looked at were missing the shroud before I purchase Alita. So not a huge deal.

Other thing that has happened during all this COVIDIOT stuff is that I finally think I fixed my alarm/door lock issue.

Most know that I have been fighting with some electrical gremlins that do not like the remote start/door lock control that I had installed. Well over the weekend the wife and I took a trip up to the family cabin in Alita and then ENTIRE TIME (good 45mins there) the door locks were wigging out. The road was a bit on the rough side as it has snowed the day before and a little during that day and they weren't plowed like normal for Tahoe. This rough ride with the coupled random locking of the doors lead me to believe that I have a short or break in one of the door lock lines somewhere.

After consulting my EWD to see where the door lock controls were that were spliced into I found that the tech apparently spliced into the wrong wires and instead of removing his old splices her left the connectors on the lines to rotate and move freely as things jostled around. The shop used these kinds of connectors to splice in, of which I found three incorrect splices left on the lines.

Once I found that I pulled the relevant plug to allow myself room to work. Disconnected the splice connectors completely from the lines and then taped the lines up. Literally this is something that took me all of 30 minutes to complete. And guess what, EVERYTHING WORKS FINE NOW!!!! Have been going on 4 days with no issues from the locks driving around, can use the aftermarket fob to lock/unlock the doors without setting the system off or having the locks wig out and lock themselves. Also have not had the truck try to lock me out. Something so simple and easy, you think that people would clean-up stuff like that instead of just leaving the inaccurate splices in there.

While I was working on that side I did notice that the door lock actuator is a little on the weak side, so that will be on the books to replace in the near future. I am just glad that I don't have to worry about the alarm constantly going off now.

Being a newbie may I ask what benefit this wiring 3pk offers? Just an upgrade? Or is this for you guys who run aux accessories?
Little bit of both. Most stock wiring harness are made just large enough to handle the resistance and everything of the system when new. So as time passes, wires break, corrode, have other things spliced in, etc. the resistance goes up and the system becomes anemic. This CAN cause grounding issues in the future as you being to add accessories like new stereo systems, more outlets, things with higher voltage demands.

Did the aftermarket guy put those on there? I'd be pissed if that was a "professional" install.

Yeah. Short answer is that I find that most shops use those to make splice connections.

Well unfortunately the win with the alarm/door locks was fairly short lived. Friday got a random set off of the alarm when unlocking the doors, just once. Then over the weekend it continued to happen to where it now does it anytime I unlock the doors with the fob or manually with the key (regardless of which door). Gonna plug in techstream tonight to see if I have any codes/DTCs but I did not the last time.

I have looked at all the door lock sensors and could not see any broken tabs that would indicate the sensor is not reading properly. Just seems so odd, next thing I am thinking of doing is since this is via the aftermarket keyfob control through the remote start, that I will disconnect those lines and remove the negative battery to try an ECU reset. Then from there see if using the stock keyfob functions?

Been emailing back and forth with CompuStar/iDataLink about the lock issue I have been having. After some decent back and forth one of their tech/engineers got involved and determined that their knowledge base/dealer information is actually incorrect. Due to how the immobilizer system works, their system CANNOT hijack the door lock controls. Hence why the system eventually starts to wig out.

So really, I paid a little extra money for the extra key fob controls for nothing. Not a huge deal but still a bit annoying. Time to go through and disconnect the door lock controls, remove the splices and reset everything.

I hope this problem resolves itself for you. It sounds super frustrating.

I disconnected the splices into the door locks. Gonna have to disconnect the battery for a bit to reset the ECU to make sure but playing with the locks tonight I was able to get things to work without setting off the alarm using the OEM key fob.

Took Alita out to stretch her legs on the dirt some. Weekends have been crazy around her at EVERY trailhead as people try to get out and do something "different". Nevada isn't planning on opening ANYTHING anytime soon, governor's last address was that he is waiting to see a 14day downturn/decline in cases before he will consider his proposed phased plan. At this point we have been flat for going on two weeks.

Anyways, this is just behind my neighborhood looking NE ish. The old Lincoln highway, didn't get to far up as there was a big rutted out section that I was not airdown for and being alone I didn't want to risk getting stuck. Wife and I attempted a couple times but at one point said screw it and didn't bother.

Oh and after three days (KNOCK ON WOOD) the locks have not set of the alarm!!! Seems like I was able to reset them after disconnecting the battery and then going around and cycling each lock manually with the key (lock, unlock, lock).

So far no issues and REALLY hope this keeps up.

Getting a bit closer finally!!! Ordered the last few parts, aside from the axles, I think for the front end rebuild on Friday along with a new tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt (one of the pulleys is squeaking a bit and the belt seems fairly new, have to double-check paperwork but think it was done in 2016). Final stuff is coming over from Partsouq, would have bought the hub flanges from one of the guys on here but they were literally 1/3 the cost, so that is a little too hard to pass right now. Even got the shipping information from them this morning as being dispatched!

Wife and I decided to do a bit more dirt road exploring yesterday, rut that we were able to quite get past last week (due to time constraints) got some rock stacked in it and Alita had no issues this time. Ended up going MILES further up the area and finding a nice little spot to turn around, again due to time constraints. Smacked the hitch in one small area but rest was just fine, especially considering that I didn't air down at all. Trying to keep it mild until I replace all the axle stuff so I don't suddenly shred a hub flange.

That is an awesome view! The blacked out badging looks great.

Thanks... Yeah that is one of the things that drew me to it. That whole "Storm Trooper" look!

Holy crap... and just like that the Partsouq items are slated to be here tomorrow! I literally ordered this stuff at like 10am on Friday (5/1)!

Where is this at?

@Flight2k5 This is up King's Canyon road about 6 miles back on the dirt from the parking lot.
You still planning on heading home?

Ok question for everyone that has done a full service on the front axles (@2001LC and others).
This is the list of parts that I have come up with to replace. I decided that I will not be replacing the wheelbearings as I have no indication that they are bad and don't feel (at this time) I need to replace the cone washers or nuts. Everything with a date has been purchased, last thing I am waiting to get the money for is the axles.
So what am I forgetting????
