I'm planning to do a 5MGE swap into my 86 pickup, it's currently equipped with the 22R. Can anyone point me to a good inline fuel pump that will be easily installed? I'm not entirely sure of the fuel inline dimensions or the 5mge's fuel requirements. I've heard that the 22RE's stock pump will supply enough fuel to satisfy the 5MGE.

If you use the 22RE pump you will also need to get the gas tank from an EFI truck. The pump is inside the tank, so not inline like you request. Actually, since you are installing in a 1986, that would be the best way to go. I suspect you will need to modify your fuel lines at the tank, but that is not a big deal.

To answer your question on an inline pump ... Aeromotive 11109 from Summit Racing. I believe your lines are 5/16". You need a pump that puts out 43PSI. This is a noisy pump and mounting it with rubber isolators is, IMHO, required. Here is now I mounted the pump on my FJ40. You can see the rubber isolators.

Also, the 5MGE engine was used in early Cressida and Supra cars. There was a Toyota external, inline, fuel pump application. But, you better get a crowbar in your wallet. These pumps come with mounting brackets. As far as I could tell the pump was the same, but the bracket was different between cars.

1981-84 Cressida (5MGE), 23210-45060, $525.83 list.
1982-83 Supra (5MGE) and 1983 Celica GTS (22RE), 23210-43040, $610.56 list.
1983 Celica GT (22RE), 23210-35010, $493.13 list.

It'd be easiest to change your fuel tank out (maybe you can just change the part under that unbolts from the tank under the in-cab access panel?)- remember, you also need a gas return line going into the tank from the fuel rail pressure regulator. out of curiosity, why the 5MGE and not the 7MGE? All the fitment issues would be the same since they have nearly identical dimensions

Here are some engine numbers for comparison

Well, if you are going to ask the question... why not the 3RZ? More HP than the 5MGE, more torque, better gas mileage, and an easier install (it fits).

Yeah, I'm thinking the EFI tank swap might be the way to go. I have a 5MGE left over from my 7MGTE swap in to my 84 Supra. I would love the 3RZ or the 7MGE, but I'm short on cash. So while I have a 5MGE I might as well swap it in and try it out. Plus I think it'll be more unique, not too many 5mge swap around here. It'll be cool to prop up the hood and show people a straight six.
